I see that it is still either #2 or #3 at the box office and hear that it is still doing great at the 3-D theaters, but is it to $100 million yet?

My thoughts are that this will do OK but not great on SD DVD..but will be a big seller for HD DVD.

I will probably Netflix the hd dvd.

I will probably Netflix the hd dvd.

I usually do that to, and if I like the movie I buy it later.

I am just curious about Beowulf though. Some people said it flopped and some say it will do well. It seemed like a risk to make.

It has made 144 millions worldwide in boxoffice so far.

A couple of things

1. Movies cost about the double if you count in marketing budget.

2. Theaters stand for about 20% of the total income a movie makes. To release a movie on theater is more a marketing thing for the DVD market were the big money will be. And having a movie on theater really helps the DVD sales.

It's just under $70 Million domestically as of Monday, Dec 3.

It's going going to be tough, but it should eventually cross $100 Million, but probably not until later in the month.

$144.6 million worldwide so far reported. Funny how some people are only concerned with US box office figures, since many movies make more outside this country. You've got to look at the whole picture.

The 3-D screenings are doing a large percentage of the business, a pattern which has happened with every dual 2D/3-D release so far. That's why Hollywood has a couple of dozen 3-D projects in the works already. Next up: U23D.

I saw it last weekend and thought it was pretty good. Should make for a reference HD DVD (assuming Paramount releases it in HD) next year. The animation was damned impressive when it was at it's best, and average (for CGI) when it wasn't. I found the changes they made to the story to be pretty entertaining, too. I know that is the biggest issue a lot of people are having with this adaptation. They either accept the changes and love it or hate it because of the changes.

I really enjoyed this movie. I'm surprised it hasn't done better. You'd think the LOTR fanbase would eat it up.

I saw the 3D version and it was pretty cool. Haven't seen a 3D movie in years so it was nice for a change. As for the movie itself, I'd say it was ok at best. I think the story was nice but the delivery was not there. Maybe with a different director it would've been better (though I do like Zemeckis's stuff generally).
I just got tired of hearing "I am Beowulf!" every two seconds of the movie.

As a tech demo it's great. As a story telling movie it's average. The Beowulf saga is one of those story that translate badly to the big screen unless you can find some really, really good classical actor to pull it off.

Many of the IMAX theaters are sold out to almost the end of December.

The bodget on this one was 150mill.

Its made 70 in NA and another 75 oversees.

I've heard that movies typically have to make 3 times there budget before they start making profit. Leave it up to Hollywood to come up with that calculation.

Honestly I really have not been beating myself to watch it in Theaters. I'll wait for it to be on hdm to check it out. I still have Polar express dvd from 2 years back that I have yet to watch. I wish Zemmicks would go back to making regular movies. Polar Express live action IMHO I think possibly could have been a bigger hit than it was with folks. It definately didn't do bad but I think real actors would have given it a much different feel.

I'm ignorant to 3D. Is it accomplished within the software, or the hardware (muliple Projectors overlaying images?). Just curious if there is a way for a
3D version to be available on HD DVD with glasses....or can it not work that way?

I saw Beowulf in theaters, and while it is a great technical demonstration.. it's downright goofy as a story. Without giving away details for those that haven't seen it, I personally thought it was an exceptionally average movie and was disappointed in several details.

you should watch this in imax in 3D.

it is an amazing experience.

the hd-dvd or dvd will never ever do this justice.

unless hd-dvd will make 3D players, otherwise don't bother. just go to Imax 3D and be amazed.

for me this movie was the best movie experience since i watched jurrasic park and saw those dinosaurs.

Yea, after the movie was over, I searched under my seat to see if there was a horn down there. Very Dissapointed that there wasn't. :):D

My wife and I and some friends went to see the Digital 3-D showing of this movie and it was good, not great but good. They did make some changes to the "Beowulf" story, but nothing too drastic. We felt that the 3-D effects were not used frequently enough as it did not add a whole lot to the overall viewing experience. There is one fight sequence where Beowulf almost become impaled by a spear-like top to a tower which was really enhanced by 3-D and to think of it, I actually liked the "Paramount" intro-screen, as the stars of the Paramount logo appear to come from nowhere.

Agreed. I only went to see it because I'd not seen a Real D feature yet.

It was a great movie experience and worth it for the 3D presentation alone.

I won't be buying it on disc though.
