Looking at the remaining schedule, Cleveland is now guaranteed of having the fewest games this season in HD. Cleveland is now guranteed of having at least 9 games and at most 11 games in HD this season. Cincinnati and Houston are the only two other teams that could finish with 11 games in HD. Houston is likely to finish with at least 12 games in HD since they play Indianapolis in week 16. Cincinnati could also finish with 12 HD games if they have HD games in both week 16 and 17. However, this is unlikely as Cincinnati plays Miami in week 17 on CBS, and CBS will have at least 6 games on a doubleheader week for them. Overall, it looks like the Ohio teams are the losers this year in the HD world.
perrycom 12-05-07, 11:00 AM Hoping that WKBN in Youngstown switches from the Browns/Jets game to the Pats/Steelers. I'm halfway between the two markets, so I get both Cleveland and Youngstown CBS stations via TWC. Unfortunately this Pats fan may have to go to a bar to see the game with a lot of Steelers fans, which wouldn't be pretty...
TravelFan1 12-05-07, 11:16 AM 4:15pm, I'll be heading to the local Sports bar to catch Pitt at NE, there's no way I'll miss it to watch a lame Jets game.....
During the commercials in the middle of the G-men game, i'll be switch to watch a bit of Brett Favre.
dmedina 12-05-07, 12:53 PM It looks like a gopher went in there and dug a little tunnel of "San Diego vs Tennessee". Check it out! Doesn't that look cool?
Kevin12586 12-05-07, 12:59 PM Great, not only do we get Jets/Browns this week instead of Patriots/Steelers, but we also get Oakland/Green Bay instead of San Diego/Tennessee. Hopefully Green Bay stomps on the Raiders early so CBS will switch to the other game :D
Go Giants

Youngstown is a Browns secondary market. Browns are on the road.
Per NFL Rules - they must show the Browns in its entirety.
jimp2244 12-05-07, 01:06 PM Things worked out quite nicely in the Cincinnati/Dayton area, especially in the 4pm time slot...
1pm CBS (7 WHIO) Oakland at Green Bay
1pm FOX (19 WXIX, 45 WRGT) St. Louis at Cincinnati
4pm CBS (7 WHIO) Cleveland at NY Jets
4pm CBS (12 WKRC) Pittsburgh at New England
8:15pm NBC (5 WLWT, 2 WDTN) – Indianapolis at Baltimore
4:15pm, I'll be heading to the local Sports bar to catch Pitt at NE, there's no way I'll miss it to watch a lame Jets game.....
My thoughts exactly.
MeowMeow 12-05-07, 01:50 PM So, are there really that many folks in the Youngstown area who do HD and don't have a dish or a good antenna rig?
I'm in central/western PA, and I love getting the extra games out of Youngstown on OTA. I'm disappointed when you guys don't have a Browns game!
Whats going on with SF bay area not get the Steelers and Patriots.

49ers play at home in the same timeslot, there can not be a game on at the same time on the competing network in the primary market of a team playing at home.

Don't worry. I just heard from WKBN and they're going to stay with the Browns. Looks like I'll be at the bar to watch the Pats.
Who cares about the 49ers. :D
St. Louis at Cincinnati 1:00 PM FOX (Pat Summerall, Brian Baldinger)
I guess Summerall is doing the Cotton Bowl again this year. This must be his warm up game. One of the all time great announcers.
humdinger70 12-05-07, 02:55 PM San Diego gets stuck with KC/Denver game. I know they're division opponents, but neither is going to the playoffs. SD is the only area west of Utah not getting the big Pitt/NE game (other than those areas completely blacked out of the late game).

There may be some interest in this game because if SD wins their early game and Denver loses then SD clinches the division title.

Agreed. Even at his age, he is still better than some of the Fox guys, most of the CBS guys, and a ton better than Mike Tirico and Bryant Gumbel. At least if called Tony Romo, "Rick" Romo, like Gumbel did last week, he can use his age as an excuse. To me, no one will ever replace Summerall and Madden when both were in their prime.
dc_pilgrim 12-05-07, 05:26 PM Who cares about the 49ers. :D
The Pats, they have their #1 pick.

Do have a complete list of which games were SD? If so, could you please post?

Yeah, and Kansas City gets stuck with the San Diego/Tennessee game. I know they're division opponents, but so is Oakland, and KC is the only area south of Minnesota not getting to watch Green Bay.
steelersfan21 12-05-07, 09:11 PM don't forget youngstown is also a pitt secondary market in addition to cleveland so its basically a station pick. Next week will be interesting when secondary rules don't apply, as both teams are at home. Steelers-Jags or Browns-Bills. I'd think steelers jags because the playoff rankings are important to thatt game

Why yes I do, I have a complete list of every HD regular season game since 1998. The list was very simple to begin with just listing the 3 HD games during the 1998 season, now it is a full blown Excel workbook that tracks just about everything to do with the HD broadcasts from how many appearances each team has on each network to how many games had an NFC West team as the away team that was broadcast in Standard Definition and the game was played on grass (2).
Below is the list of SD games this year:

Sounds like someone needs a relational database :eek:
If I would have thought to do that like 3 years ago it would have made sense. Now, putting it together would take too much time since it will serve no purpose next year. The Excel workbook, however, is very easy to use and once the schedule is input at the beginning of the season is very easy to keep up to date.
mikemikeb 12-06-07, 01:23 AM I guess Summerall is doing the Cotton Bowl again this year. This must be his warm up game. One of the all time great announcers.Only his mind's no longer tack-sharp. Last year's Cotton Bowl was painful to watch. He couldn't keep up with the action and there were long moments where he said nothing during plays. I know he's trying really hard, but age has unfortunately gotten to him.
perrycom 12-06-07, 09:51 AM don't forget youngstown is also a pitt secondary market in addition to cleveland so its basically a station pick. Don't bet on it. Here's the response I got from David Coy, Programming Manager at KBN in Youngstown:
"Hi Cameron,
Obviously a very difficult decision, but no matter how big the game, there are definitely more Browns fans in the Youngstown TV market. And this year, with them in the playoff hunt, we feel we need to continue to show the Browns when we can.
Sorry to disappoint, we do hate to be in this no win situation.
Regards,
David Coy"
I think it's about 50/50 between Browns/Steelers fans in this market. If you'd like to email him to persuade him from his pro-Browns position, here's his email: dcoy@wkbn.com. I'd be all for it!:D
Lets be clear about something...
No market can be a secondary market to 2 teams in the same conference.
Period.
Youngstown cannot be a secondary market to both the Browns and the Steelers.
I can confirm it is a Browns secondary market.
CPanther95 12-06-07, 11:50 AM My hometown is in the Youngstown DMA (PA side) and almost divided evenly between Steelers and Browns fans. It's been a while, but Youngstown was always more pro-Browns and IIRC, the TV station was no different.
iowahawkeye 12-06-07, 12:01 PM KGAN (CBS) in eastern Iowa must have waffeled on their selection, as the map http://www.the506.com/nflmaps/2007-14-CBS2.html shows the KC Cheifs/Denver game but http://www.kgan.com/ shows the Pitt/NE game. :(
TravelFan1 12-06-07, 01:50 PM In Buffalo area, Fox should just take a break this week.... i know they can't show a 1:00pm game, as Buffalo is playing home... but I am wondering if a single soul in Buffalo will watch Minn at SF instead of Pitt at NE at 4:00pm....
humdinger70 12-07-07, 10:34 AM San Diego's KFMB (CBS) has made it clear, no chance in hell of getting Pitt/NE, making us the only station west of the Pecos not to see it. Jay Posner's column has the details: http://www.signonsandiego.com/sports/20071207-9999-1s7mediacol.html
Jeremy W 12-08-07, 03:33 AM a ton better than Mike Tirico and Bryant Gumbel.
How could you even think about putting Mike Tirico in the same class as Bryant Gumbel? You are gross, sir.
I guess Summerall is doing the Cotton Bowl again this year. This must be his warm up game. One of the all time great announcers.
Agreed. Even at his age, he is still better than some of the Fox guys, most of the CBS guys, and a ton better than Mike Tirico and Bryant Gumbel.
Summerall is now a feeble old coot. If I had to take a drink every time he says "Beg your pardon" when he screws up, I'd be tanked by halftime.
Let him go gracefully into that good night. I'd rather turn the sound down and listen to my 12 year old do the game than subject my ears to Pat Summerall circa 2007.

+1. The last few years with Madden was absolute torture!
jigwatts 12-08-07, 07:53 PM perrycom, that's funny that they tell you they make the decision. The last time I complained someone from WKBN replied by saying that it's the NFL's decision, not theirs.
I'm in Vienna and altough I use to get KDKA's digital singal with my antenna, I just haven't been able to since the weather turned colder. Looks like I'll be watching it in a bar to, but I'm a Steelers fan so I'll be alright.
Something must be done to fix this. I understand there are rules, but the browns/steelers fan base in this area is as close to 50/50 as you can get.
Does anyone who has time warner remember when NBC use to broadcast the games? Time Warner customers had the local Youngstown and Cleveland stations, so the Cleveland station would broadcast the Browns, the Youngstown station would broadcast the Steelers, and everyone was happy.
jigwatts 12-08-07, 07:59 PM I forgot to mention, altough the browns are having a great season by their standards, most browns fans that I talk to would rather watch the Steelers/Pats game and listen to the browns game on the radio. Even they would rather, if it were to happen, see the Pats get knocked off then watch their own team beat the jets.
It's just the better of the two games and would get much higher ratings.
Sevenfeet 12-09-07, 07:56 AM I had to do a double-take on the Pat Summerall thing too. Hadn't he retired, like three years ago? Well, he's a legend and I hope that he does well today. But we'll see.
perrycom 12-10-07, 12:25 PM Well, the Steelers fans at the local bar were pretty subdued...wonder why?
What a time for Boston sports fans. Since Game 4 of the ALCS, between the Sox, Pats and Celtics the combined records are something like 35-2 - pretty heady stuff for the once downtrodden New England sports fan. Even the Bruins have a winning record! :D

Yeah, theres no better feeling in the world than when Steeler fans are made to be quiet! They are an obnoxious bunch. :D
