I'm looking to control 5 devices in my home theater. Unfortunately all of my devices are in the rear of the room, behind the seating area. So, I need an RF remote to control an Epson Home Cinema 1080, a Sony Receiver, a PS3 (I arleady have an IR adapter for it), a Toshiba HDA2, and a DirecTV HD box.

While budget isn't really an issue, I'm trying to find the cheapest remote that will work this setup (RF transceiver included in total price).

Any suggestions on a good, cheap RF remote?

The Harmony 890 will do the job. It can be had for less than $300 and includes the RF base. There are some URC solutions as well, but you'll more than likely break the $300 mark.

Theres the one-for-all urc9910, terrible RF performance though.

URC has the bundles the RFS200 and RFS100. both come with mrf100b basestation. about hundred.

It might be cheaper buying the URC basestation and remote separately.

Problem is a 'cheap' remote may be good, but will it be easy to use and offer the programming flexibility to do the job.

Compare the confusing number of small buttons on the Harmony's to the approach URC uses on the MX-850 (RF-20 is the consumer equivalent I believe) or 900's, 950's. To me the Harmony is way too confusing and the buttons way too small. You may 'get it' but will the others in your household be able to easily use it. The URC's mentioned have fewer buttons that are well spaced. Most of the frequently used buttons are 'hard buttons' and the in depth controls are on pages in the display. All of these are available with RF base stations and will do an increadible job.

IMHO, a remote is an integral part of a system, just as important if not more important then anything else. Simple ease of use and good ergonomics should be paramount in your choice.

You are right. Instead of going cheap, I decided to go high end. I ordered an MX-3000 and RF-350. They arrive tomorrow. Now, time to download templates.
