I just bought an 880, and while I like the form factor, I am having difficulties programming it the way I want it.

I do not want an activities main page. I want the LCD to display the devices I want to control, and when I press a hard button for the device, I want the LCD (and hard buttons) to change to that device's. I can live with pressing the "devices" button to achieve this, but I would like to remove the "activities" default main page. It could just stay on the last device it controlled.

Another issue is I want to have certain buttons control other devices. For example: I want the volume buttons on the DVD device to control my AV Preamp. Or the volume on the PVR device to control the TV. As it is, if a device doesn't have a volume control (as a DVD wouldn't) I can't even learn the IR code on the 880.

Help?

Thanks

The Harmony remotes are an "activity" based system; that's the way they're designed. I was initially reluctant to think of it that way, too, but once you embrace the "activities" way of thinking of it, it works out quite nicely.

Well... Even if I live with "activities", more importantly, I need to sort out the volume control issue. It's a pain to have to change devices back and forth just to adjust the volume or press "mute"

Thanks

When you set up your activities, the software asks questions about what device should control the volume and change channels, etc. You operate in Activity mode, not Device mode. You use Device mode when you want to access other commands for a particular device.

In my Watch TV Activity, I have my volume control set up for my receiver and TV for changing channels. I have another activity for watching TV via my HD cable box. I have the receiver doing volume, and the cable box doing channel changing.

My Watch TV Activity turns on my TV, receiver, cable box (not used in this activity, but turned on anyway), sets the TV and receiver to the correct inputs.

If your activities are set up correctly, you rarely have to go into Device mode for routine operation. One button turns on your devices and selects the correct inputs. It can take several tries to get the settings just the way you like them.
