I am using the Motorola DCH 3416 DVR thru Comcast and was wondering if I could upload recorded programs from it using a network cable.
I have uploaded programs using a S video w/ audio cables but I have to run the recorded show while doing it.
Just thought it would be simpler and quicker using a network cable to transfer the programs to my PC.
Any help would be appreciated.

My VERY limited understanding is that the only way to transfer anything from your box (mine is a DCT 3416 I) is via the firewire, at realtime, with some sort of video capture running on the PC. I'm sure tons of folks here know more. Maybe they will chime in.
If you get anxious, search for "firewire and motorola" inside this forum. Also, try finding your model on wikipedia - I think there are detailed instructions there as well regarding how to transfer video to your PC.

Thanks Audixium.
I have not tried the firewire yet. My main reason for the question was to upload to the PC without doing it in real time. I am assuming real time means it has to be playing on the TV or DVR to upload it.
I thought if using a CAT 5 cable I could just simply have the recorded programs like files and drag and drop them to my C:\ drive on the computer.
Right now, like I said, I have used an "S" cable and audio cables connected to the back of the DVR going to my ATI All in Wonder card purple cable adapter.
What I have uploaded has turned out pretty good using this method, just thought using a network cable would be much easier.
I appreciate your response very much.

You're confusing the Motorola box with a TiVo. The Tivo is the only standalone DVR that allows you to download and upload.

Thanks dfdtv. I don't know anything about tivo but someone at work mentioned maybe I could try uploading recorded programs to my computer using the network input on back of my motorola dvr box.
I will continue using my S cable and audio jacks and maybe eventually buy a firewire cable and firewire card.
By the way, why is the network input on back of my DVR box if it can't be used for such things?
Thanks for your reply. I am glad I joined this forum. Looks like alot of usfull info here.
By the way, why is the network input on back of my DVR box if it can't be used for such things? It's there for future use. For example, in the future, a provider might use the ethernet connection -- rather than coax -- to deliver channels.
If you want to view recordings that you download on your TV, there are other boxes to do that. Many on this forum have a box connected to their TV that can play recordings stored on their PC, over a network. In fact, there's a forum dedicated to that (http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/forumdisplay.php?f=39).

After downbloading drivers (3x), pulgging and unplugging cable (5x), installing payches (3xs), I still get the 80705AA message. Does anyone have any other suggestions?
I appreciate you gurus who help the helpless.
