what i want to know is how to i record while still playing in HD what cables or adapters do i need to make it happen?
i read some where that an s-video cable could help but i dont know how or if it would or even how to go about it
sneals2000 12-08-07, 11:06 AM The 360 can only output in one resolution at a time - so it is either SD or HD but not both. The Dazzle, like most domestic analogue capture solutions, only accepts Composite or S-vide which are SD only formats, so using the set-up you currently have you can only play in SD if you want to record in SD.
Either you need to record your gaming in HD - which requires a high spec PC and an expensive component HD capture card - or you need a way of downconverting HD to SD for recording on the Dazzle.
It may be possible to do something with a VGA to Composite/S-video converter, if you can feed your TV in HD via VGA AND downconvert this to SD that might be a solution.

tell me how i can do the VGA thingy as my TV has a VGA slot
what do i need to buy to accomplish it as my only other alterantive is a camcorder but dont really want to go there
thanks for replying
sneals2000 12-08-07, 12:56 PM As others have stated - the Xbox forum may be more accurate as I have no experience with this directly.
However there are VGA to Composite/S-video scan converters on the market which will downconvert a high-res VGA feed to composite/s-video. If they will cope with a resolution that your TV will also accept, and your XBox 360 generate, then this might work.
I'd check out the XBox forums though...

is this the kinda thing that would work??
if so are ther any cheaper products?
sneals2000 12-09-07, 03:06 AM The lenexpo CVP thing looks like it should work - it has both VGA pass-through, so you put it between your 360 and your display, and copes with a wide range of resolutions, scan converting to S-video or Composite. (S-video would be better quality by a bit)
HOWEVER - check the VGA resolutions your TV supports - not all HDTVs support 720p or 1080i via VGA and are often limited to lower, square pixel 4:3 modes via VGA.
Chudy 13 12-09-07, 06:40 AM i think i figured out how to do it via component
http://www.hometech.com/video/componentsplit.html - the very last splitter (5 way)
component for 360 into component in-port on the splitter then second component lead from splitter into HDTV then composite video lead from splliter into dazzle
i think that should work!!

Don't think that will work. The issue isn't splitting the component and composite - it is getting two different resolutions (SD and HD) simultaneously.
The 360 can only output one resolution at a time - if you want to use the XBox composite output then the 360 has to be running in SD resolution. If you want component HD resolution, then the 360 has to be running in HD.
The devices you link to are simply distribution amplifiers that allow multiple displays to be fed at the same resolution from the same source - (Some devices - particularly satellite receivers - have both SD composite and HD component outputs - hence the dual composite and component paths on one of them)
The devices you link to do NOT downconvert from HD to SD - if you feed an HD component signal into one you get multiple feeds of the HD component source, but not a conversion to composite. If you feed a composite source in, you get multiple composite sources out, but no component HD.
They don't solve your problem - which is you want the XBox to run in HD, but to also have an SD feed to record. The only way of doing this is to convert the HD feed to SD which requires digital frame-store techniques to convert a 750 (aka 720) or 1125 (aka 1080) line HD video signal to a 525 (aka 480) line SD signal.
Chudy 13 12-09-07, 09:54 AM argh lol i dont know anything about this stuff lol,
i dont want to record in HD i just want to play in HD while it records in SD, so confusing :(

But you want to play in HD at the same time as recording in SD - so you need feeds of both formats simultaneously. As the XBox won't deliver both formats simultaneously, you have to take an HD feed from the XBox to your display, but also downconvert this to SD composite for recording.
Component HD to composite SD converters are not common as it isn't something many people need to do, but VGA to SD converters are more widespread, as many people want to convert PC VGA feeds to feed normal TVs etc.

so this setup should now work lol
360 via VGA > VGA spliter x2 > extra VGA lead from splitter to tv > second VGA from splitter into down scaler > from down scaler s-video lead into dazzle?
lol so confusing but any ideas where i could get these things cheaply?
