I have the Scientific Atlanta 8300 HD and I am wondering if there is any way to take movies I record off High Definition channels and record them to Blu-ray or HD-DVD so I can free up hard drive space?
My other option is to buy a Terabyte hard drive for extra storage space and daisy chain it to my SA 8300 HD.
Does anyone have any other options or solutions? I would prefer to be able to record the HD content to discs so I can store them indefinitely without worry of HD failure... Is this even possible? Do some channels/stations not allow their material to be recorded via encryption, etc?
Thanks for any help in advance! :)

Oops, messed up on the model number... Corrected now, sorry.
Firewire connection is the best for either D-Vhs or computer, if that feature is activated on your box.

Is there any link to specific instructions on how to get a saved show from your DVR to your computer so you can put it on a DVD. I DVR'ed the Packer game I was at this weekend and desperately want to burn it to a DVD.

The software and formatting used in the DVR is proprietary and even if the firewire port is active your PC won't recognize the drive. In some cable systems you are able to slave a SATA drive to the DVR to increase storage space but the content would still be unrecognizable to your PC. Even if you can add a SATA drive the DVR will see both drives as one big one and you won't be able to dictate what drive you want a movie stored on.
I know that programs and movies on premium channels are copy protected so you wouldn't even be able to output that content to a DVD recorder VIA S-Video.
Some older DVD recorders and D-VHS machines had component inputs so that may be an option for recording non-protected HD content but your best option may be an HD tuner card for your PC which will allow you to record non-protected HD content on non-scrambled channels directly to your pc but it would require that you run coax to the back of your PC.
Farside, the only way to get content off the DVR is via S-vid or baseband video just like you would if you were making a video tape.
Check this link.
