View Full Version : Speedskating on Universal HD
Speedskater 12-08-07, 12:04 PM Universal HD just showed the first 2 hours of a 6 hour program from the recent Long Track World Cup race from Salt Lake City. Much better video than the 2006 Olympics. In the slow motion shots you could see the clap skates working in every stroke.

hooked01 12-08-07, 06:32 PM Which UHD Exec is going to be fired for putting on this programming? ;)
Not that I'm disappointed. I was really surprised and delighted to see this on the schedule yesterday! And in HD too!!! I thought it must be a mistake. NOBODY broadcasts Speedskating unless it's the Olympics!!!
Chad Hedrick looked really rusty out there. I guess he's been enjoying the "good life" after the Olympics. Not too many U.S. women out there either.
Speedskater 12-14-07, 07:16 PM The second segment will be on tonight. Friday December 14th.

Speedskater 12-15-07, 07:57 PM Fabris skating the 5000 meters, definitively has the best skating style.
We did the US Short Track Nationals last spring.

hooked01 12-16-07, 12:07 PM Anyone know if there are any plans to show more of the World Cup competitions? These 3 shows are races from one event.
I'd like to see some short track racing too! How is Ohno doing this season?

After watching the Long Track in HD from the same building the webcast hurts your eyes.
DSperber 12-23-07, 07:13 AM I managed to see the heads-up a few days back, so I set the DVR for everything that was upcoming this weekend and the coming week.
I love speedskating (both long track and short track), especially from the SLC arena that was specially built for the Olympics. It has beautiful lighting for HD and all colors, especially the pure white ice, are absolutely perfect. [In contrast, the Olympics figure skating and short track from the Delta Center had inferior lighting and seemed grayer and darker].
Interesting... the UHD broadcasts are "sans logo"! Unbelievable!
High quality picture, and announcing, like the Olympics. Very enjoyable.
hooked01 12-23-07, 02:52 PM I'm watching the ShortTrack finals now. Thanks for the heads up. There are quite a few names from inline speedskating out there!
It's killing me that there's no HD broadcast of these types of races.
Marcus Carr 12-24-07, 04:38 AM They're also showing curling! Woohoo!
