I've been trying to find one Remote that would be have all the functions of my other remotes along with nice design and ergonomic usage with WAF.
I don't have a lot of components. Mits DLP TV, Proceed Pre/Pro, Sony DVD Player, Pioneer CD Player, Dish SAT, HTPC(future), HD DVD/BR(future). Everything is in direct line of site in the cabinet in front of the viewing area. So I don't need an RF functions.
I have everything configure so that the Proceed is the central switching and volume control.
I tried the Harmony 880. Couldn't even get pass configuration setup. Spent hrs with tech support. So it went back to Dell, where I bought it.
Then I decided to go with something simpler, one that does not need computer to set it up, ie the URC RF10. It's basic and it worked fine for simple setup, but I couldn't get it to work with the Proceed. I had to learn every buttons and map it myself (what a pain!). Even then I have to switch back and forth between the Pre/Pro to change volume and the component. Tried using the SimpleSound feature, but that didn't fly. It ended up disabling what it was setup to learn and I had to re-learned again. furthermore the RF10 does not seem to have direct button support of DVR functions, like skip+, skip-. So this thing is going back as well.
So I'm back to having 4+ remotes by my side again :(
Having gone thru 2 now, I guess I'm going look/read hard before I buy another one. What I'm looking should be pretty basic. But it seem that what's out there is either too basic(not enough support for older components and lack common direct buttons) or too advance requiring a computer to setup supporting with RF base station and numerous macros and activities--not to mention cost. Any suggestion?
