View Full Version : Is something wrong with ESPN HD today
gators96 12-08-07, 08:07 PM None of the basketball games were in HD today and they were supposed to be. Also the Heisman ceremony right now is not in HD even though the ESPN HD bug is at the bottom of the screen, it has the black bars on the sides. I have Insight cable in champaign, IL. Anyone else having the same problem.

No HD on ESPN via E* today either. Something must be wrong at the station today.
The Heisman Trophy show is not in HD. The basketball game on ESPN2 was also not in HD.

If you're watching ESPNHD, and you get the ESPNHD pillarbars, then the show is being broadcast by ESPN in 4x3. You could also check your program guide or titantv to see if the episode you are watching is indeed supposed to be HD. If you are watching it and for some reason its 4x3 without bars, then its likely an issue with your cable provider.

I am aware of this. There were several games yesterday that were supposed to be in HD and weren't. I am guessing since others had the same problem, it was an issue on ESPN's behalf.

If there was is a problem at the cable company, 99% of them don't have the ability to upconvert an SD feed to HD. The correct thing to do is to work with the program provider (ESPN in this case) and find out what's wrong. At least then they know what to say when people call.
The only alternative is for the cable company to re-direct a set-top box to the SD channel when the viewer selects the HD channel. This isn't always easy, and could cause even more problems when the HD comes back and the channel mapping settings aren't returned to normal.
ENDContra 12-09-07, 10:34 AM Or maybe your source that said those games would be in HD was incorrect. I know my program guide had neither the basketball games or the Heisman trophy presentation listed as HD, only the I-AA playoff game (which was in HD).
URFloorMatt 12-09-07, 02:40 PM ESPN's own program guide (www.espntv.com) had the Heisman presentation listed as HD.

My source was HDSportsguide.com . They are usually 100 percent accurate. They had the Illinois/Arizona game and Kansas/DePaul game listed as HD and neither one was shown in HD.
