View Full Version : When is the divx/xvid update coming out? Inspector Jihad 12-09-07, 08:19 AM 360 already got the update...i thought we were going to get it first. Interspy24 12-09-07, 05:00 PM I'm also interested to know when we get this update. PikachuManZzZ 12-09-07, 05:54 PM before christmas prolly with the 1.1 profile update. I have nothing to back this up, but it's as credible as anything else out there. I'm sure we'll get a heads-up on the Playstation blog (http://blog.us.playstation.com) a couple days before hand. Until then, just sit tight and wait. PJ_Rage 12-09-07, 09:21 PM Wait it's going to be xvid also? I thought just divx? PikachuManZzZ 12-09-07, 09:50 PM Wait it's going to be xvid also? I thought just divx? same thing as far as playback is concerned awx 12-10-07, 04:45 AM Well, both the Xvid and Divx codecs are implementations of the same MPEG4 ASP standard. There are some minor differences that I don't fully understand, such as Xvid's ability to support more warp points. The company Divx also has created a slightly different container format for Divx videos, called... :gasps: .divx, which is supposedly the .avi format but with some small changes to support subtitles, menus and chapters. Divx also has a DRM scheme that is usually used to sell videos online (mostly porn I think). I'm really hopeful that we're going to get full MPEG4 ASP compatibility in an update but right now we just don't know. PJ_Rage 12-10-07, 07:49 AM So, in other words, after we get "the divx update" we can play xvid files directly? awx 12-10-07, 10:26 AM That's what I hope. Time will tell. logicalnoise 12-10-07, 11:45 AM xvid is simply a expanded opensource version of divx. It has a lot more features and can give a better experience with the same compression as divx. Most xvid files traded on the net should work identical to divx but that's all depending on the player and codecs used. PJ_Rage 12-10-07, 12:00 PM I just had the feeling that it wouldn't work (on purpose) since alot of pirated software still uses xvid. cadsystems 12-11-07, 10:37 AM You can get a free Divx Pro from here: http://www.divx.com/dff/index.php if you don't already have it. I'm looking forward to Divx compatability with the PS3. Will the PSP be divx compatible as well? rcase13 12-11-07, 10:57 AM You can get a free Divx Pro from here: http://www.divx.com/dff/index.php if you don't already have it. I'm looking forward to Divx compatability with the PS3. Will the PSP be divx compatible as well? I hope so! Of course you could always use remote play to play the Divx files on the PS3 on the PSP... I realiize this is not a good method. Xyn1407 12-12-07, 02:58 PM I hope so! Of course you could always use remote play to play the Divx files on the PS3 on the PSP... I realiize this is not a good method. Your right because we have a ton of divx videos (all purchased) and my son wants to be able to watch some of his cartoons on his psp when we go for long drives. I hope and pray they make an update for the PSP. |
