I posted this in the LCD thread as well, but I figured I would get more plasma responses from this thread, but if this the wrong thing to do, let me know. Please read:

I am at my wits end. I currently have the Sony KDL-40XBR4 and it looks wonderful. I upgraded from a KV-30XBR910 CRT and I love the new tv. I was able to get it for $1900 open box at Best Buy.
This week Best Buy is running the Panasonic TH-42PZ77U for $1500 with a free Blu Ray player and I am considering buying it, but I am not sure which one would be better. I have been researching for hours and know that most say that plasma is better, but many have written that the Sony is the best LCD available. I was wondering if I could get some input from you all on which one is better.
Thanks in advance.

It is generally agreed that plasma has a better picture with truer blacks but the new lcd's are narrowing the gap. Personally I have the pz77u and love it. It's a fantastic picture in HD and it displays SD fairly decent too. (After 1080i upscale by my DTV HR20). You won't be disappointed with the plasma that's for sure and it's cheaper so more bang for the buck.

I wouldn't get the PZ77. Go for the 700u if you want a Panny plasma. I don't care at all for the anti glare filter that is on the 77.
