I'm curious what audio and video formats I'll be able to stream from my MacBook to my PS3. I'm primarily hoping for H.264 support for video and FLAC and WMA Lossless support for audio.

It seems like the best bet for a media center right now is an original X-Box modded with XBMC but I don't wanna mod mine and I don't wanna hunt down another X-Box in good condition and go through the trouble of modding it so I'm hoping the PS3 has some impressive video and audio support.

Sorry if this has been covered, I searched and couldn't find anything.

Yeah, it's pretty tough to keep track of. The Wiki article on PS3 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayStation_3) has the basic supported formats, but there are a few things it doesn't track.

There's a thread in this forum somewhere that has a link to a very exhaustive list of all the supported formats. I'll see if I can track it down.

EDIT: Here's the thread:

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=938295&highlight=audio+formats

and here's the direct link:

http://www.edepot.com/playstation3.html

That should be far more information than you could ever want or need. :D

Thanks for the links.

Ok, so H.264 support check, awesome. And I noticed it said WMA support (no FLAC support sadly buy I think I'm gonna stick with WMA Lossless anyway so no biggie) does that mean it will support WMA Lossless as well or only the lossy WMA format? I checked the WMA wiki but it doesn't mention the PS3 anywhere in the article.

Unfortunately, it does NOT support the WMA Lossless format. This has been frustrating me for years now, but apparently Sony doesn't seem to see the need to support that or any other lossless format.
