View Full Version : Original Sixaxis 1yr later...

I'll get some pics up later but it seems early for the analog sticks to be stuck in certain directions. On my original controller, which has seen a lot of play, the left stick doesnt snap back to the original spot. Its always creeping forward unless you pull it back to reset it. It feels loose. The right stick has some of the rubber coming off.

I know this is to be expected after time but a year?

Anyone else's controller showing signs of premature wear? Would anyone else consider 1yr premature?

mine is fine (though i probably haven't used it as much as some of you). i don't know if my bluetooth antenna is getting weaker or if it depends on what games you play, but it does seem like my controller loses connection for a second or two more often than before. this only happened to me once in a while playing RFoM, but it happened quite often during R&C and a little less often during Drake. do you think this is a PS3 problem, or the controller itself? (i have a 20GB launch unit).

Push it down. If the Controller Analog stick has been pulled up you might have to push it back down.

I have two controllers and the controller the kids use seems to be wearing out. The left analog stick seems, well... sticky. Who know what kind of kind of boy gravy might have found it's way down there though.

I've got one that drifts as well, but I'm used to it. Used to happen on my PS2's mangled controllers, too. I noticed it most in COD4 when my guy would be creeping forward, but pulling it back every so slightly to stop the forward drift. I'm not investing in another controller until the DS3 shows up here so until then, I'll live with it. I've got two Sixaxis controllers so I'm all good.

I've only had my PS3 for around 6 months and have started to get this issue.
I wonder if some of the "controller drop" complaints aren't related to this?

I've only logged some little over 100 hours on the system. But in all fairness,
I started out much rougher on the controllers (things weren't going where/when
I thought they should so I tweaked harder on the controller, stupid, it was just
my lack of experience with the game... I also wonder if this isn't related to
some of the controller drop complaints, that's what it seemed like to me
until I got the hang of the game and started using a lighter touch for it.

I've actually pressed so hard as to push the left joystick (deep) into the body and
somehow luckily it was able to snap back into place a few times I was pressing
and turning it so hard, I have the callous on the side of my thumb to prove it!
I am an experienced gamer, but have been out of it for a while before the PS3.

Luckily when the "creep" shows up for me, it's usually an in-menu kind of thing
(PS2 war strategy game) and I don't notice it during battles since I'm always in
control. Other games, I'm sure I'd be bitching about it.

No relation to each other what so ever. Bluetooth sync issues are a confirmed problem noted all over the forum.

The sixAxis is likley cheaper in design than the Dual Shocks we were used to last gen. (sure feels like it) Maybe the DS3's will be more sturdy and stand to abuse longer.

And yes... "Boy gravy" is a really, really gross term. Let the kids play with a ziplock bag over the controller. lol

I've noticed that the top part of my sixaxis is slightly looser in comparison to the bottom part, if i use my hand to sort of grab one side and try to shift it I can feel it shifting, only one controller out of my two though

We used 3 different controllers for about 8 months of resistance play. The right stick on all 3 lost sensitivity. As in, you can wiggle it around a little and your aim doesn't move. For precision shooting I have to pull back a little or push forward a little. The left sticks "stick" like everyone else is saying.

It does feel like they are of less quality than last gen dual shocks. When I squeeze sixaxis in my hand I can hear plastic squeaks and feel the two case parts shift a bit.

I have played RFOM for like 300 hours probably and COD is coming up on 72 hours so I guess its time for a new controller.

I would have to guess that Sony made the plastic thinner in an effort to get the controller's weight down since it does motion control. Perhaps they reasoned that a heavy controller would be harder on the wrists? Who knows.

My biggest problem with it is the triggers. I really, REALLY hate R2 and L2. If they were gun triggers like the X360 or just buttons like the PS2 I'd be 150% more happy with it.

My right analog stick on the Sixaxis from my 60 GB PS3 developed a slight drift too after about 8 months of use. I think it comes from the L3/R3 clicking. I know I press down on the sticks really hard for some reason.

I broke off the piece between L1 and L2 when I got scored on three times on the same powerplay (shorthanded). Meet Mr. Velocity and Mrs. Ground.

1 year seems a little short with no abuse. I've lost one to abuse. No sticking problems with the other launch controller but I haven't given it as much use as the OP. Either way his use doesn't strike me as excessive.

While I do like the lightness of the controller I don't like the flimsy feel. Like others have stated I can pretty easily twist the two parts of the controller.

FWIW,My DS3 feels much sturdier.I still may buy a few Sixaxis when they go on clearance(you know they will) just because I actually like the lighter feel.

i know this may sound dumb, but has anyone taken the controller apart to try and fix the drifting issue? i know it probably voids your warranty, but i was wondering if the controller could be fixed this way

I plan on eventually doing the light mod to mine,so my originals will definately be my test beds.IF my sticks start wearing down I will prolly mess with em.

Yeah I disected one of my stick ones 2 weeks ago. I hit up the amazon $20 BF deal for 4 of them so i just ripped it open with no worries about saving it. The modules that the analog sticks go into are self contained. It appeared the only way to get into them was to desolder them from the board. At that point I pitched it and started charging a new one. At $50 each I would be pissed, but at $20 I didn't really care. I just consider it a cost of gaming and pay up. It sucks, but what are ya gonna do?
