View Full Version : Sirius Connect in newer receivers

I have searched many receiver threads as well as much of this forum and have not found an answer to questions I have regarding the Sirius Connect and compatibility with newer AVRs on the market (Namely the newer Onkyo's--I am likely getting the 805 soon).

I currently have a Sirius sportster rigged to an older HK receiver, and the sound quality is as good as what I get in my car. Could it be better--sure, but the content makes it a no brainer to turn on, especially as background music. I live in Chicago, and have no issues with reception with my antenna near a windowsill.

My questions are as follows:

--The Sirius Connect manual states that I may not need the AC adaptor for use in some receivers. I have not been able to confirm this with the 805 manual. Can anyone confirm that I will not need another bulky brick behind my new system?

--There are optical, analog and the DIN connector outputs coming out of the Sirius Connect. I am assuming all I need is the DIN, or do I need to connect the DIN and optical as well with the 805? Does using optical (if functional with the 805) produce better sq?

--Can I expect better sound quality from the Sirius Connect v. the Sportster I have now? Obviously, my (significant) AVR upgrade will help, but all else being equal, will there be better sq?

Thanks in advance for your answers.......

I don't think you're going to get any bit-rate difference between the Sportster and the Connect. I think it's around 96kb? I'd have to look it up.

Honestly, if you want better sound quality you'd probaby be better off hooking it up to a computer and upgrading to the premium service at 128kb.

Your limiting factor here is the bit rate, not so much the connection type between the radio and your receiver.
