I have a DISH DVR 622 connected to a Panny Plasma over HDMI, set to 1080i. HD picture looks great. SD TV looks bad. Setting to 720 P does not help. I noticed my Moms Direct TV DVR outputs 480i-1080i depending on the content, where the DISH DVR upscales to whatever you set the output at, and I think it does the upscaling poorly.

Does the newer DISH DVR (722?) output native resolution, so I could let my TV do the upscaling? SD TV looks better on the DIrect TV DVR I believe. My Mom has a 1080p Mits TV, so I am not doing an apples-apples comparison

So I guess what I am asking is:
will SD get better if I upgrade from 622 to 722?
Is it worth switching to Direct TV for this?

I do enjoy the USB Hard Drive featire of the DVR, but also am sick and tired of not getting FOX in HD in my area on DISH.

thx for you input

The 722 is just like the 622, except it's black and has a bigger hard drive. Native passthrough is one software upgrade they're talking about, but who knows how long that may be? Lots of people have asked for it.

Only you can answer your other questions. ;)

Have you tried OTA for Fox?

thanks. tey have been doing lots of SW updates, the USB drive was a nice surprise...
Cant get OTA here, so I ahve to pay $9/month for Comcast to get 24, House in HD which sucks...not sure I'd swicth for that...
