I looked for a logitech 550 sticky or master thread, but didnt see one. Anyways i have some questions, hoping you guys can help.

The 550 is in my price range and i'm wanting to buy it. But....will it?

1. control my toshiba hd-a3?
2. my oppo?
3. any future c/e components like....i will be getting a dish network hd dvr in march when my "contract" is up for renewal.
4. Will is control my dish network hd receiver now? Be able to open the menu, go to favorite channels, all the options the the dish remote does?
5. My future blu-ray player purchase?
6. My future Onkyo receiver?
7. My ceiling fans? :)

I guess, i basically want to know if its future proof to some extent?

thanks for your all time,

What you can do is set up an account for yourself by going to the Logitech Harmony Website. As far as I remember you do not actually need the remote to play around with the software. You can have a look as to what your options are.

As far as future proofing is concerned, mainstream purchases like blu-ray players and Onkyo amps should not be an issue, IMO. Ceiling fans, if they can be controlled using an IR remote, can be controlled by the Harmony as it is also a learning remote. That is it learns commands from your existing remotes. So that way it's pretty much future proof.

The devices controlled by a Harmony are defined by Harmony's web site, not by some capability unique to the remote you purchase. Harmony updates their web site as new devices come on the market. You just connect your remote to the internet and download whatever stuff you need. And it's easy!
