Before I get flamed, I did search the site about headphones. What I am looking for is the best headphones for watching my blu-ray movies with my Denon 7.1 receiver. Also I may use them for gaming through the same receiver. I am looking to spend under $100.00 and have searched Amazon (would this be the best place to look?) and find many people recommending the Sony MDR7506. I have read a lot of posts on here where people say for under $100.00 you can't go wrong with the Sennheiser hd555 or Sennheiser HD280. Any help would be mean a lot. Thank you.

Best place to look for that info would be www.head-fi.org. Great community over there :)

If you do join up, welcome, and sorry about your wallet. I personally love my Beyerdynamic DT-770s, but theyre about 125-150

totally depends on ur taste. if you want mucho bass, go for the dt770 (80 ohm, pro model.) they can be found for $135 on eBay.

if ur not into bass, but still enjoy a share of it, go for the grados sr-80 or 70... forgot which one.

pretty much check out head-fi.org. just like ^^^ said, beware. you'll find urself wasting dollar after dollar on headphones XD

So Grados is the way to go? A lot of people on Amazon say they are very uncomfortable. I am not into a huge amount of bass, just a good amount for explosions during movie play.

I did a lot of research when I got my head phones and settled on the Ultra Sone (Proline 2500) out of Germany. Amazing sound, not overly heavy on the bass but certainly duplicates surround sound better than any others I had heard.

But along the lines of the previous poster you really need to listen to them as our tastes my significantly differ than your own. I've heard some pretty good Grado's and they certainly are a well reviewed line.

Figure I'll throw in my suggestion too. I have had, and loved, a pair of Sennheiser HD-497 headphones for the past few years. I also have the Senn. HD-595, and while they present a sound that more closely resembles a live performance, if I had to choose between the two I would choose the 497 7 times out of ten. The 497's are just a very warm, inviting set of headphones to wear and listen to. And I do mean literally warm, at least for me as they sit on my ears and actually warm them up (pleasantly), whereas the 595's sit around my ears. But I digress. The 497's were something like $60 new, and everything I throw at them sounds fantastic, and they're easy to drive in the event you want to listen to a portable player through them.

Aside from that, many people like the Grados, though a seemingly equal amount find them very uncomfortable.

Just like to keep peoples' options open :)

Can't seem to find the Sennheiser HD-497 headphones on Amazon. Also Sennheisers website says that they are discontinued.

The Best Earphones in that price range are Sony MDR-V6. I have a pair and they sound really good, I also have a pair of grados ($1K) and the grados sound only slightly better and need more power to move them. Cant go wrong with the Sony. The only thing that I suggest is to change out the ear cushions with some thing more softer. Peace

Under $100 - Grado SR-80. Hard to beat the sound quality for the price. :)

There's no way you can go someplace and try various suggestions on for fit?

You're right! They do appear to be discontinued! I didn't even bother checking before I posted, my apologies. Makes me glad I didn't sell them to purchase something "better" like I do with EVERYTHING ELSE.

It's a shame there aren't any (or are there?) stores that specialize in headphones where you can go to have a listen. At least none of the stores around here that I've found.

Just because I don't think you have enough options yet, the Sennheiser HD-485 might be a good option for you as well.

My friend recently purchased some Grado headphones, i cant remember which model but i believe they were arond $275 to $300ish...most uncomfortable headphones ever, looked and felt like the foam material in a car seat. But the sound quality was incredible. I listened to some lower end models and they sounded ok in store, but then again my friends headphones that we tried out in store sounded terrible, but when we got them back to his place, they were a 100% better.

The Senns HD 280 pro's are great (I own a pair) if you need to block outside noise (like idiots on the busses I take, for example). However they are a closed design and although they sound great for a closed design, you might want to look at open-air if you have no issues hearing the sounds around you.

Thanks to all. I went with the Sennheiser HD-280 Professional Headphones, purchased on Amazon from Electronics Expo for $67.48 new. Seemed like a great deal, I hope I don't get screwed.

For $100 I'ld get the Grado SR-80 or SR-125. Granted if you really wanted a good movie experience with a nice amount of bass you'ld want to spend more...say $200-$400.

Lastly, there are no best headphones...everyone likes a different sound.

"marinecop" ...
you will like your HD-280's, I use a pair at work and can wear them for long periods without "ear fatigue". At the Amazon price, you did very well ! Enjoy

I like my Sony SA-5000 headphones better than anything else I have owned, including the Grado RS-1 and nice Sennheiser cans.

The AKG K601's are the best set of cans for gaming and movies/entertainment. Great mids and bass, and a lot of sound stage. Better then the beyer dt770 and senn 595s.

How do a pair of Shure SE210s sound in comparison to some of these full sized headphones like the AKG K601, Senn HD485 or Sony SA-5000?

It's for my iPOD exclusively, so take the lower sound quality into account that the iPOD is outputting.

I'm planning on using the iPOD stock earphones for jogging and working out, and then using a set of earphones for home that are more comfortable and sound better, and that can also be worn out on walks, etc.

IEMs in general don't sound quite as good as headphones. Unless you really need an IEM, go with a pair of headphones

I have those and love them, but dont plan on using them on a plane. They allow noise to enter and leave the phones (your neighbor on the plane will hear what you hear)

I agree. The decent sounding IEM earphones start around 200+, and the very good sounding ones start at $300+. For that price, there are a ton of normal headphones that are cheaper and more enjoyable.

IEM's are portable and noise isolating. If you need BOTH features, then IEM is the way to go, otherwise, full sized headphones are a better bang for buck
