Just getting into HDTV now due to the purchase of a HD projector. I'm not ready to go with cable or dish for HD content and really want to do OTA. Since I'm using a projector which has no internal ATSC tuner, I'm now in the market for a tuner.

Are there any cheap (read: under $100) tuners out there?

If I find a used one, is there anything I should be looking out for?

Thanks

Used - maybe. Check the usual sources (ebay, etc.) . If you want new you might check out the Samsung DTB-H260F that should be available at Circuit City /Best Buy, etc. Be warned - often the Samsung 260s on ebay aren't including the remote (which makes it useless).

I would look into getting one of these, just make sure you get a remote and you can return it if defective:

Might try the PHD-205 from epvision.com. Has ATSC/NTSC/QAM tuners. A little over $100 ($150) but I have it and it works well.

(with remote). Personally, I think the little bit extra is worth it, as it's really an excellent tuner.

Which firmware did your's have? Because the early firmware did pretty much suck, but I personally thought the last firmware released for the USDTV units worked pretty well. The power supply in mine died though so I got the PHD-205 since it also handles analog NTSC.
