Recently bought a onkyo 505 and hooked up everything thru a/v receiver via hdmi cables and out to tv via hdmi cable. (one hdmi connection on back of tv) I have a Motorola HD dual DVR and a 42 pioneer plasma tv. I sometimes get a green screen and there is nothing I can do except turn off cable box and hope it goes away. I have double checked all hdmi connections and think they are fine. I also have some problems w/ comcast on demand. Not all the time but problems enough that it is aggraviating.
Cable box has firmware 16.20
Any help would be great. Thanks

What model DVR? I've had the same problem with the DCH 3416. Firmware 18.34 seems to be better, but it's still there. I see the problem when I'm tuned to an HD channel and try to play and SD recording.

Motorola makes at least 4 different models of dual HD DVR. However the output settings for them are all about the same.
Green screens normally mean that no video content is being received over the connection/resolution in use.
Do you notice a difference between watcing SD digital or analog channels and HD resolution digital channels? If so then try by passing your A/V receiver and see if you still have a problem.

Alright , update exchanged my cable box and got a new one but looks like I still once in awhile get the green screen, I have ruled out the a/v because I have cable box right to tv via hdmi.
Any chance it is the tv or hdmi cable? Thanks

Highly unlikely it's the HDMI cable, and probably not the TV.
If it makes you feel better, I will get a green screen once in a great while(not even once a week), for about 1-2 seconds. I use the HDMI switching in my Denon AV receiver. I also get a green screen for a split second when the box first turns on. It's something to do with the HDMI handshake.
If the green screen interrupted something very important, I can just hit replay and go back 20 seconds, the green screen has nothing to do with the recording on the DVR, it wouldn't reappear in the same spot upon playback.

How long is the cable? If over 15' you may need a better quality cable.

3ft. From Monoprice. Really Fustrating, Happens Basically Every Other Time I Change Tv Stations To A Hd Channel. Then I Have To Turn Off Cable Box And Turn Back On And It Works. Usually Just Hd Channels But Sd Once In Awhile.

Is their possibility that your cable box is overheating or receivng a weak cable signal due to low quality splitters being used?

I had the same issue with my Sony 40kdl2500 and the Motorola DCH3416. With HDMI I got the green screen and a black screen with component. Currently, I'm not using a receiver. I had a comcast tech come out and he switched the output setting from 480p to 480i and I haven't had the problem since (about 3 days). Hope this helps.
