I have a DSM-510 at home and have tried a 520 at work. No matter if I stream or use the USB for input, photos take a very long time to load (10 seconds for the 510 and 7 for the 520). I have tried various sizes of pictures to eliminate large photos as the culprit. This is very unacceptable to me as other devices like the Apple TV (even streaming) and my Wii can display photos quickly and effectively. Never mind the minimum 3 second delay between pics for a slideshow making the time betweeen excrutiating.

It's a good product and video/ audio does not seem to be an issue so why are photos so slow? Newest firmware installed (1.07).

See the thread "Questions on the DLink DSM-520 for the answer to your question on the last page as of today.

I read that thread and I still don't see anyone mentioning time, just that it would take longer for transcoding and such. I have set the D-link media server as recommended and hope it helps some but doesn't answer why the Wii and Apple TV work so so much better (speed wise at least).

Given that you the menu navigation through photos is hard enough with the small thumbnails, the last thing I need is the 10 second delay just to get a better look at a picture.

Does it take this long for others with this unit?

Transcoding time should be proportional to the power of the cpu. If you use TVersity on a fast computer it will be much faster than streaming to the DSM-520 and letting that cpu do the scaling.

the Apple TV is a Mac, and even it's relatively slow cpu is much faster than the DSM-520.
