need help, i just upgraded to an xbox 360 elite, and i am using the HDMI cable to send the a/v through my reciever (onkyo 850) to my projector (sony vpl aw15), and it runs in 1080p but it is stuck in widescreen which is really weird with split screen games (GRAW specifically) cause it does one screen on the left and one on the right, we want it the other way (one screen above one below like it was with the other xbox), but the screen format option is grey'd out in every setting except 480. When i had the old xbox hooked up w/ component thru my onkyo to my projector it ran in normal screen fine, now with the elite and hdmi it is only widescreen. I called xbox last night and the person i talked to said that it should be able to do 1080 in normal and blamed the fact that i could not acess the screen format option on product conflict with the reciever or projector, although his language skills were quite limited and his product knowledge seemed to be limited to the prompts on the computer screen infront of him. Can i run it in 1080p on normal screen or does it have to be set to wide screen? Do i have something set wrong in the reciever? I tried the different picture settings on the projector with no luck

1080p is a widescreen resolution

Most of the newer games run split screen side by side. There are no settings, you just get what the developer programmed it to do.

Calling India for tech support is never fun.

As said before though, 1080p is widescreen only.

You can't "choose" the mode (side by side vs top/bottom) by default. That's not a feature of the system. You could choose the mode in a few games on the regular xbox (I believe halo2 was like this... but it's been a long time) when you played them in wide screen mode. In any case, this was a feature of the game (one which I would love to see put in new games!).

In either case, you don't have the option. While the 360 "could" do it... it depends on what the developers put into the game. If they didn't support top/bottom than you can't do it :/

ah does anyone know if there is an option in GRAW to swith that then, cause it was top/bottom but now on 1080 it is left/right so i know it can do both, if not i'll just get used to it
