I have the receiver. I also have a unit in my car that has one of the chips that goes in the holder along with the receiver unit.

I have the base for the home that I can put the receiver in and play it through my stereo.

My question is, can I buy one of the base units, put the chip in, and play it through the 605 because it is XM capable? I don't want to buy another subscription if possible. Or, can I use the base unit I have now and somehow rig it so that the antenna goes into the 605?

Any help is appreciated.

i believe the dock for the home has a part no. of CNP2000H. if that is what you already have, then yes you can just hook it up directly to an XM-ready unit. then plug your MiniTuner cartridge as your subscription.
most of the time, the CNP2000H comes both with dock & cartridge. some stores sell them separately. but if you get the package, you can ignore the cartridge and just use your existing one instead.

Exactly, all you need is one cartridge and one subscription. That's what I'm using for my 605 I'm just looking for a deal on the mini-tuner car kit for my Alpine.

yes u can just store the other cartridge somewhere and just use your existing one... i already had a MiniTuner from a samsung nexus and when i got a Commander2 for the car, i just slipped in my current MiniTuner and i got all channels, no activation necessary.
keithjo, you might want to consider the Commander as well. i find that aftermarket radios have very poor support for satrad's metadata. with the commander, you get the cool features of multi-line scrolling display, 10 direct presets, song/artist seeks, and channel preview.
