i already did a search. There were a couple of threads that were similar but didnt help.

So here goes,..Bare with me..i am very very new to this.

Coaxial cable comes out of the main wall outlet straight into a 2-way splitter. One side goes into the Comcast set-top box which goes into the living room TV. The other side of the splitter is ran straight to the new TV in my bedroom (Panasonic TH-50PX77U). Right now i only have regular standard channels with standard definition just like a regular TV). I know the Panasonic has a QAM tuner and outputs to 720p)..

Question are,..

how can i put the QAM tuner to use?

Can I relocate the splitter from the main outlet to the output of the set top box then split it? Wouldnt i have to watch the same channels tho with this way?

How can i avoid having a chunky set top box in my bedroom to have High-Def ? Can the QAM tuner be treated as a set top box? If not, are there any "smaller" tuner boxes??

The QAM tuner should be working with the set up you have now, did you do a channel scan on the new TV?

QAM usually only gives you locals in HD, if you want any of the premium channels you get on your main TV, you'll need an STB.

I want to put a 15" hdtv on our kitchen wall without a Comcast box. I've got the digital cable line snaked through the wall to the right spot. But now I gather from various threads here that I need a "mystical cablecard" equipped hdtv to get a decent picture. I understand that if I go this route I won't have the channel programming feature, etc. Is anyone aware of a solution, such as a specific 13-15" HDTV model that is equipped with a cable card? Thanks.

Welcome to the forums. There have been reports of better images with cable cards, but that's only slightly crisper images. Really doubt anyone would notice such improvements on such small-screen displays. So, no, you don't need a cable card setup (card plugged into display). But the small-screen kitchen display will need a QAM-capable tuner for the unencrypted H/DTV channels delivered by your cable company, and a NTSC tuner for any analog channels. I have a small B&W monitor connected to the RF coax output of my HD cable box; (plus YPbPr for a HD display). It provides good 480i NTSC images of whatever the cable box is tuned to, including downconverted HD channels. -- John

I don't think you're going to find what you're asking for - the cablecard TV seems to be going the way of the dodo. And all the cablecard really does is give you access to the encrypted digital QAM channels.
