View Full Version : Audio issues on only one TV w/ Comcast
oktoberrust11 12-13-07, 08:59 AM I subscribe to D* for TV, and I have Comcast internet. With that, I get free basic cable. I have this distributed to 4 TV's throughout the house. I recently installed a 10db cable amp on my TV feed; one of the TV's had a bad signal on channels 2-10 or so, and I also wanted to see if by some chance I would pick up for unencrypted QAM HD channels. Ever since this was installed, on one TV (not the same one that was having picture problems), I have audio issues on about 5-6 channels. Channels 2 and 4 audio is flipped, but the picture is right. Channels 3, 5, and 9 don't get any audio at all. Does this make sense that an amp would cause this issue? Any work-around aside from removing the amp?
Thanks,
Matt

What does this mean flipped? (left and right or chan 2 audio with chan 4).
Are chan 3,5 and 9 okay with the video?

Channel 2 audio and channel 4 audio are filpped, i.e., watching Seinfeld on channel 2, I get the video for channel 2, but the audio from channel 4. Strangest thing. Video is fine on all channels, only audio issues.
Thanks,
Matt
Sometimes an amp can cause more harm than good. If you were only having problems on one TV to begin with, then an amp is NOT the answer to fix it. You either have a bad TV, VCR, bad splitter, bad wiring, or a bad satellite receiver (if you're running the CATV through it). Being that it's channels 2-10, sounds like a bad connector, but you will need to do a process of elimination, or call us cable techs to come out and fix it. :)

Move a different TV in the house (that works correctly) to that cable outlet, and move the TV with the problems to the other spot and see what happens. This will tell us if it's the TV or the cable outlet that's causing the problem.

Thanks. I just did this, and all of the channels worked fine on the other TV. So this means it's a TV issue. I wonder why ever since the amp was introduced, the problem occured, and stayed. Could I have damaged something in the TV tuner? It's a Sharp Aquos EDTV, 13", probably about 3 years old.
Thanks,
Matt
oktoberrust11 12-31-07, 12:13 PM Sorry to do this, but *bump*. This issue is kind of starting to get annoying. Like I said, the amp is out, but the audio problems still exist. Any ideas?

I guess the best test is to take the 13" TV to the 1st cable drop in the house and directly connect to the TV. If it still has a problem, then for whatever reason, the TV's tuner may be the problem as suspected.

I thought that when you traded places with the TVs and the issue followed the TV, you had decided that it was a TV issue.
Yes, it is entirely possible that the picture problem you were trying to fix was isolated to that one outlet and everything else was fine. The additional 10dB of signal strength could have damaged the tuner.
It is also entirely possible that it was coincidental and the TV issue had nothing to do with the amp.
