"360 GH3 not being on there does not shock me. It's ridiculously hard to find. Some stores didn't receive any restocks of the bundle after the initial shipment."
antwon412 12-13-07, 07:42 PM Seems to me, RB is just as hard, if not harder to find the GH3 right now.
Yet that still comes up. Strange.
mboojigga 12-13-07, 08:29 PM I just read about this but OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHH
your in trouble now OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHH can't post this stuff some people on this site get real sensitive about numbers being posted. :D
Tru-blu 12-13-07, 08:48 PM Wow, NPD overall numbers are massive for the month of November. Consumers are spending shitloads of money on gaming products! I wonder how other aspects of consumer spending will be for the holidays.
assasyn 12-13-07, 08:48 PM I though you couldn't post comparisons?

lynesjc 12-14-07, 10:45 AM Wowzers re: the numbers. An article I read the other day talked about demand for video games being inelastic. I thought that was interesting.
If true, why are these numbers soaring in the absence of any major price drops?
I have a theory as to why that is. With inflation, particularly food and gas, taking a bigger bite out of most people's discretionary purchasing power, gaming is a relatively cheap luxury to indulge in, even at the HD/next-gen level.
Couple that with a weak dollar discouraging travel abroad and you have a situation where it's financially attractive for people to entertain themselves at home more.
Or it could be that the games are just darn good and everybody wants a piece of the action...:p
Stellar sales on COD4 & AC. Surprised that ME hasn't sold nearly as well, relative to the estimates.

Probably because that's exactly what inelastic demand means: that demand is not sensitive to other variables. Apparently video games are fairly price inelastic at the holidays. Obviously they're generally very elastic with relation to cost, as is seen with huge sales increases when prices drop.

No kidding last week I had to renew my live subscrition AND I bought MS points. I didn't even get a game for the $60 some odd dollars I spent!

You sound like my little sister back when we were kids..
Oooooooooooooooooooooooooooo youre gonna get it!!! Youre in trouble now! Imma tell momma when she gets home. lol
brophog 12-14-07, 12:48 PM Not to get in the way of all of this economics discussion.....but it couldn't be that this fall was severely backloaded with top quality games, could it? :):):)

crazy huh? :D
mboojigga 12-14-07, 12:54 PM Stellar sales on COD4 & AC. Surprised that ME hasn't sold nearly as well, relative to the estimates.
Are you not aware ME is already added to the ever growing list of million sellers for the 360?
lynesjc 12-14-07, 01:38 PM No, I was not aware. I just thought it was interesting they didn't "beat the street" to the extent the other two titles did. COD4 was up 107% over estimate; AC 88%, ME "only" 43%.

I hear what you're saying, I had just understood inelastic to mean weakly responsive to price change, not totally unresponsive.
Maybe I have this all wrong though. Maybe the market is more elastic that thought and the fairly recent ps3 and 360 price cuts have had a more profound effect than I appreciate. 75% year over year is amazing growth.
I imagine there's some pretty hefty Christmas bonuses being doled out within the industry right about now.

I think it has something to do with the numbers.
by inelastic they mean that gas prices/inflation and tighter budgets are not affecting the video game sector. people will cut corners in other areas, but its full steam ahead as far as their gaming spending.
"Although consumer spending has slowed down this quarter with many retailers reporting disappointing results, video games are largely inelastic to consumer income," simExchange analyst Jesse Divnich said of the figures. "The market’s forecast for November and December confirms the belief that video games are a safe haven business in slower consumer spending environments."

iamthehunter 12-14-07, 09:42 PM the economy is booming...unfortunately these boneheaded economists keep pounding the same old drum...every quarter, expectations and predictions are low and gloomy but miraculously most sectors are dynamically higher. descretionary income is considerably higher for the vast majority. gas prices, while higher, are not affecting much of anything except the news media.
everyone is being spoon-fed on the "mighty dollar" at all time lows.......remember not too long ago when politicians were crying over the trade deficit? have you looked at it lately? amazing how our dollar drops and the WORLD travels to the U.S.; buys goods from the U.S. keep an eye on the travel sector...good time to buy some stock:)
FrankJ.Cone 12-14-07, 10:00 PM Am I the only one that expected the 360 to do better? I mean Halo 3 is out, Mass Effect is out, a bazillion great third party games are out... I think that $350 price is killing sales.
iamthehunter 12-14-07, 11:30 PM console problems didn't help; upgrades and lack of supply didn't help. you couldn't find an elite anywhere around here on bf. also based on the turnout bf and internet monday, my guess is that sales have been slow since...bb is forecasting huge numbers this weekend..a typical store in decent market (say) $79K/day is expecting $200k/day through the weekend...
blu-ray also seems to be dominant in most store displays which i frankly didn't expect:confused:
I'm not surprised at the year to year gain, 2006 was kind of dry. I bought GoW, RS:V and Marvel and Marvel was a dumb buy. This year I have bought twice as many games and am still missing some big releases like COD4 and AC.
