So why does Sirius claim to be "commerical free"? I sure do hear alot of them.

I've found XM to be the same way. The $$$ from commercials must be too good for them to pass up.

I believe that they only claim that the music channels are commercial free.

There are only a few channels on XM that have commercials, a concession to the fact that Clear Channel has a financial stake in them. There is one country and I think two pop channels that air commercials. There may be more but I don't listen.

For XM i've found the decades channels have commercials, 2 thru 10. The higher channels 40 + I listen to, don't have 'em and only short announcements about upcoming shows.

That's right so the only commercials that I hear on the music channels are usually just things promoting a special program coming up on that or another music channel.

I find that the news channels seem to over compensate with commercials, though. Sometimes I'll tune in for a little while and that's all that I hear. Stern's not bad, at least the commericals just play in chunks.

That's the beauty of Sirius. 100% commercial free music channels.

I wonder if things will change on XM if the takeover goes through?

I only listen to a few channels. Stern, Raw Dog, and Outlaw Country. All of these channels have commercials. A big selling point for the sirius for me was the "100% commercial free" claim. It is a heck of a lot better then terrestial radio but I could do without the porn site and penis enlargement commercials.

Does XM have commercials?
All music channels programmed by XM are commercial-free. We offer the most music in satellite radio, including 69 commercial-free music channels. Many of our news, talk, sports and entertainment channels (including comedy and kids), as well as four music channels programmed by Clear Channel Communications carry a limited amount of commercials. Most local radio stations carry 18 minutes of commercials every hour.

Some XM stations, like the news channels (Fox News, etc.) do have commercials, and very irritating ones at that!! Most of the music channels I listen to, though, don't (unless it's XM ads for other stations).

For example, the 60's channel airs a lot of reproduced PAMS jingles from the 60's that give the station the sound of a Top 40 station from that decade rather than the modern adult contemporary sound that you get on FM oldies stations. The 80's has a lot of video game/techno sounding jingles and movie mashups. And they all have jocks so it doesn't just sound like you're listening to your iPod. But, as stated, you'll never hear any commercials on any of the decades channels or any other music channels programmed by XM.

Additionally, any talk or sports channel has commercials, but there's no way to avoid this. If they're running a baseball game or talk show and there's a two minute break on the network, they have to take that break. There's no possible way around it.

Been a while since I gave the decades channels a listen, year at least. Could have been the imaging & dj's your refering to. Anyway was turned off by whatever it is. The Fred, Ethel , Lucy, top tracks are w/o commercials. Real Jazz has a dj now but only for background info on what played or is to be.
