I am getting ready to make a cable run of 2 HDMI, 2 Component, 1 VGA behind the 46" Samsung I just wall mounted. Since this will be inside an exterior wall, should/must i run some type of conduit or can I just run the cables thru the insulation? Also, are CL2 cables the way to go, even with any type of conduit? Thanks!

if you are running in wall cables then using ones that are rated for such seem like the logical thing to do.

running cables in conduit can help prevent damage to them during the construction of a room. it is not a must though. the main plus to running conduit is for "future proofing." if you ever need to run more wire it will be nice to have the conduit there.

i plan to run my pre wires just in the wall. i will run conduit from my equipment rack to the PJ and Screen for future proofing. as for what type of conduit you can use basic PVC or raceway/carlon flexible plastic stuff. just make sure its big enough to get the cables through. i suggest using 2'' conduit.

I ran 1 1/2 inch conduit and REALLY wish I'd gotten 2 inch conduit.

Pulling 50' component and HDMI was TOUGH. I taped the cables together every 18 inches or so and taped the ends up so they wouldn't break, but I had to pull VERY hard to get it through.

Run 2 inch conduit at least.

Unfortunately, my room isn't new construction, it is existing with the TV being mounted on an external wall with insulation. Should I still plan on trying to run 2" conduit or just plan on fishing the cables between the studs without?

if you install conduit, use a lube that doesn't breakdown over time like silicone, that way if you try to pull new cable through the lube is already there. But not using conduit probably won't kill you.
