Brass Balls
Complete the game on Hard difficulty without using a Vita-Chamber

Anyone get this achievement in Bioshock yet? I'm going to start sometime tonight and try to get it this weekend.

I'm grinding it out. Just got to Fort Frolic. Taking down the Big Daddies & Bosses is an exercise in tactical planning. I'm dreading facing the Bouncers soon. I have no idea how I'm going to defeat the final boss. Having to save every 5 minutes is getting annoying.

Tips:

Hack every security camera and turret.

The following plasmids are a must: Hypnotize Big Daddy, Enrage, and Security Bullseye.

Always purchase the Health Upgrades with your Adam.

Max your research as quickly as possible to get the damage bonuses. You should be able to finish up most every class by the end of Arcadia.

I think the telekinesis plasmid is very important for not dying. You can pick up a body and use it to shield yourself from gunfire, then throw it and kill almost any non-Big Daddy character in one hit. And it uses very little Eve. That actually makes me wonder how much damage a body would do to a Big Daddy. I've never thought to try that. Hacking the turrets & cameras instead of destroying them is a very good tip, though.

there were no respawns at the final boss so that fight won't be different.

I beat it on normal without using Vitachambers before they even released the achievement, how much harder is it on Hard?

It's noticeably more difficult. Everything plays identically, but you take more damage and enemies take less, so you have to plan things better.

I'm fond of sticking a bunch of proximity mines to a dead body and throwing it at a BD.

Good point about just walking around with a body out front as a shield. I usually only think to do that to trip the electro bolt wires.

It almost goes without saying Telekinesis is a necessary plasmid to have.

Exactly. You really have to think about how you're going to take down a Big Daddy or Boss.

For example, on the Peach Wilkins boss battle, I hit him with Enrage and Security Bullseye and ran and hid in one of the side chambers and just let the other splicers and the security bots soften him up for a while before I came out and polished him off.

Also, freezing a Big Daddy when they're in the line of fire of a turret usually bodes well.

Also, it seems as though Hypnotize Big Daddy was available earlier on when playing on Normal. I'm at Fort Frolic and still don't have access to it. I wonder if that's one of the things they change on Hard. Life would be so much easier with a Big Daddy at my side.

I got 'em. Feels good.

I beat the game originally on hard without using vita chambers and when the update came out I just beat the final boss again and got it.

It took me a long time to beat it that way. Much of my time spent loading a save after a big daddy took me out.

I did the same thing, reloaded game at final level, beat it and got the achievement

I've been unable to find the hypnotize Big Daddy plasmid on Hard. Am I missing something here or have they disabled it?

Nevermind, I figured it out. Can't get it if you're harvesting.

I've made it to Apollo Square, good grief it's tough.

this is the best tip one could give for Bioshock (aside from 'do the research'). throwing bodies achieves the following:
1) drops your eve consumption
2) drops your ammo consumption
3) drops your enemies FAST
4) because of 1+2, you can slot your tonics for non-eve stuff
5) because of 1+2, you spend money very little on ammo
6) because of 3, you spend less on health packs
6) you can pretend you're a dark jedi 8)
i played the game the first time on med without the body throwing and it was kinda hard. the second time on hard, with the body throwing, my wallet+ammo is constantly full.
i'm constantly going around with a body hovering in front of me (don't leave home without it)

6) you can pretend you're a dark jedi

The single greatest reason right there.
