I purchased the add-on and don't exactly remember if I downloaded the update for it or not. Let's assume I did only b/c everytime the system has prompted me that I need an update I have complied and downloaded it. My problem is when I try to play a movie it gives me an error message stating the disc is unplayable and a message pops up on the right hand said saying: "Can't read this disc. If this is a game, CD, or data disc, place it in your Xbox 360 disc tray."

The odd thing is it will play King Kong (which came w/the player) flawlessly. The only difference I can see b/n that disc and the others I've tried playing is it's only a one-sided disc. All the rest are the type where one side is HDDVD and the other is regular DVD. If I flip the disc over to the regular side and put it in, it plays with no problems. Do you think I got a faulty add-on and need to contact support to send it in or is it something simple I'm missing? I've tried to get it to prompt me for the update thinking that might be the cause, but it doesn't do that when I put anything in it. Is there a way to download the update without having the console prompt me to do it? I went into my memory setting for the HDDVD player as well and deleted the one item there, how do I delete the cache from my console and is that necessary?

The movies I've had problems with are:

Ocean's Thirteen, The Departed, Bourne Ultimatum, Blades of Glory, Chuck and Larry, and Transformers (I finally got it to work after restarting a few times, ejecting and putting back in a few more times).

The only movies it has worked perfectly so far on are King Kong and Flags of our Fathers.

Thanks for the help!!!

The only other disc I tried playing with mine besides the King Kong that came with is Digital Video Essentials HD,and it wouldn't play either side (combo disc).

I have HD-A3 with firmware 1.3 and I experienced lockup on the scene near the end on Blades of Glory. I'm beginning to despise HD-DVD. I've never have any problem with my PS3 playing any bluray. IMO, you get what you paid for.

Anything that we could do? Call toshiba or something?

Not to get off topic but can someone explain the purpose of the dual-discs to me? If you have an HD-DVD player and you're buying an HD movie why would you want the same movie on DVD?

pretty much because people have dvd players in their cars for their kids to watch movies while the parent drives, people also have dvd players in their bedrooms and such. So with the combo disc you would only have to purchase one disc to be able to play it in other areas in the house or car when a hd dvd player is not available. :)

In my opinion i think the combos are not ready for prime time as i have had issues with combos with my add-on also. either i get freezes for example with Bourne ultimatum or i get the cant read disc error for example with 300 where i have to eject and reload the disc a few times then it plays fine. It shouldnt be this hard. But then if they had the player only play hd discs instead of everything else too then i believe there would have been alot less issues. Time is needed as was the time needed for DVD to become issue free. I use to have lock ups with dvds and had problems with extra features when dvds first came out. So i will be patient for now and will only purchase the discs that work flawlessly.

Hmmm this is scary, my wife has one of these under the tree for me, I was reluctant on telling her I wanted this add on because of the running time of the 360 anyway...if I have any probs its going back and I'll spend the extra cash for an A35.....

Kepp us posted on how it works out for you.

On another note I saw a ps3 commercial this wekend advertising movies, I wanted them all but they seem to be blu ray exclusives, I hope I made the right choice on my format.....why they cant they just makes a movie in both formats so everyone is happy????
