Same price. Obviously the PB10 is a better constructed sub, but would 2 DPS12s hang with a PB10 in a small room? Going for maximum impact in a crappy acoustic room.

Going for maximum impact in a crappy acoustic room. There's no question in my mind the PB10 is the better sub. I've heard both and the PB10 is quite a bit better, IMO. That said, being able to get two DPS-12's for the price of one PB10 is a great deal. I think the route you should choose depends on your needs. How big is your room? How loud do you like to listen? Two DPS-12's should have significantly more output than one PB10 from 30hz and above. The PB10 will dig deeper than the DPS-12's. IMO the PB10 will sound a bit better for music as well, though the DPS-12's should be ok if they're at the "Jazz" setting. So here's my recommendation. If your room is large and/or you want to listen at high volumes, the dual DPS-12's are the way to go (assuming the subwoofer budget can't budge and you won't be able to add a second PB10-NSD in the near future). However, if your room is small to medium-sized, and sound quality and extension are more important than sheer SPL from 30hz and up, I'd recommend the PB10. Don't take this to mean the DPS-12 sounds terrible. It doesn't - it produces pretty good bass from 25hz up. But I think the PB10 has better sound quality, has a much flatter frequency response, and can extend significantly deeper (helpful if HT is a primary concern). Anyway, good luck. Just my thoughts, though be sure to take them with a grain of salt, along with any other recommendations you receive. Stephen EDIT: BTW, sorry I didn't read your post carefully - I see your room is somewhat small and you want maximum impact. Two DPS-12's should deliver significantly higher SPL than one PB10, so if it's sheer impact you're after, I'd recommend the two DPS-12's. Out of curiosity, where are you finding DPS-12's for under $250 each? That's a heck of a deal! mailiang 12-15-07, 12:10 PM The DPS 12 is very linear down to 25hz. The PB10 down to 18HZ. The DPS 12 will extend down to 20HZ but gives up more output then the PB10. However if you are running two Velos you can expect to pick up anywhere from 3 to 6 db depending on placement. In a small room you probably would get almost the same performance as the PB10 down to around 20hz, but above 25hz the twin Velos would provide a bit more output then the SVS. Also, running two subs symmetrically will yield a smoother over all response. Ian Ironmike86 12-15-07, 01:31 PM I would get the better sub now because you are still going to want more latter = 2 subs no matter what lalakersfan34 12-15-07, 01:45 PM I would get the better sub now because you are still going to want more latter = 2 subs no matter what I would tend to agree with you there. I think if the OP absolutely will not be spending more money on subs in the future, dual DPS 12's is the way to go. You're giving up a bit of really deep bass (which is relatively rare) for a lot more bass 25hz and up, where it's much more common. And mailiang was right that you should be able to get much smoother response with two DPS 12's than one PB10-NSD (assuming they're set up correctly). If the OP thinks he'll be likely to upgrade later, the PB10-NSD is a better choice - add another PB10 in the future and that small room will be FULL of bass :D. eightninesuited 12-17-07, 06:56 PM I don't plan on upgrading the subs in the future. So, should I go with the 12" Velodynes in this case? Ironmike86 12-17-07, 07:01 PM I don't plan on upgrading the subs in the future. So, should I go with the 12" Velodynes in this case? Sure you won't:D rockemsockem 12-17-07, 07:24 PM Technically, adding 1 more sub isn't upgrading. It's more like super sizing a value meal. :-) I would get the better sub now, and add another down the road. Ironmike86 12-17-07, 07:29 PM Good point get the better sub now and keep one. You will still have room for 2 later. Most ppl who search these forum WILL upgrade sooner or sooner :) oztech 12-18-07, 12:37 AM you mean everyone on this forum upgrades myself included if not today next month or next year darn this hobby and new and better technology.
