View Full Version : Do you think my sub is placed well? Detailed Visio diagram attached…
Matt_Smi 12-15-07, 02:40 AM I attached a detailed and accurate MS Visio layout of my room, and I am trying to figure out if my Sub if placed in the best spot I can be. I really cannot move my room around and there is really no other places I can put the sub. It is in the corner and is next to the main listening position like HSU recommends. I had my old STF-2 where the mini fridge is now, but the VTF-3 does not fit there so I basically swapped their places and got rid of an end table that was in place of where the VTF-3 is, I am now using the sub as my end table. Please let me know if this positioning is good, it sounds great and am I happy with it, just wondering if I am making the best of my room, which is my bedroom as well by the way, so there is a lot crammed in here. Here are also a few pictures of the sub so you can better see how it is placed.

warlord260 12-15-07, 11:23 AM i would get a plasma, hang it on the wall, more centered with the couch. move the av stand over, and put sub near corner. didnt see center channel, but moving tv would center front sound stage.

No center channel right now, I am getting one soon though. The room is actually not as off center as the diagram makes it look, its far from ideal, but again I am cramming a ton into this room and trying to keep it clean and not cluttered looking. I may be ditching the 30" CRT for a 37-40" LCD soon (even though I love the picture quality on it), but I am not sure if I could wall mount it there, since the wall is only straight for about 4 and half feet, then it slants up the rest of the way to the ceiling. Anyway here are a few more pictures of the room I took today to give you the best idea of the layout possible.
View of the front of the room, I am sitting in the middle of the couch, which is the main seat I use when I watch movies. These huge old speakers will be gone next week when my Ascends come in :D

And one of my custom built PC setup that is connected to my Receiver Via component and audio cables, so it can act as a HTPC as well, I watch movies off it and have over 20,000 songs on it as well. And yes I see the crocked picture on the wall!

Yup its great, all my friends comment on how it makes there pants move. The Advent speakers I honestly love, they are very well built and have a very nice real wood finish, but they are huge and dated compared to what is out there today. They also get very harsh at high volumes and cannot keep up with my sub, but for there day I hear they were top of the line. I was born in 85, so I think they are prob as old if not a bit older than me. My Uncle gave them to me a while back, the woofers have also been re-conditioned on them. I plan to keep them and use them for a two channel setup someday when I have my own place. No way would I toss them or even sell them.

I was thinking the same thing, and they appear to be in excellent shape.

I have a pair of vintage (1983) Advent 5002's, which have a parabolic dome tweeter and a sound quality that you just can not find anymore. I rebuilt them recently and they can still take a pounding without giving up any distortion. My next project is an old pair of AR 4X's which I bought in 1968. I was just a kid back then, but I still have the original recite.
