With this new HR21 receiver they installed (replacing the old Hughes HTL-HD) came with a new stacker/de-stacker, I think they are also known as multi-switches. Apparently they are installed in places with community dishes or MDU's. Anyhow, I'm on my second one now... it makes a very loud, audible high frequency pitch sound along with hissing. Even with the TV sound way up, you can hear it.
When they installed the 2nd one today, it made the same annoying sound and the 3rd party installer (consolidated smart systems) said that it's normal and he's had the same complaint. Well, it's not but given the install job he did the first time, it wasn't worth arguing with him.
The unit is powered from the receiver, but does have an DC jack, but they didn't include a DC power supply.
Talked to directv 'directly' and they said the noise wasn't "normal" but because of the relationship they have with consolidated, I've got to get them to deal with the issue. Which they are sending out more people, but I don't expect much, as the last installer put 2 splitters on the same coax which also provides my cable modem.. causing it not to function, as the attenuation just was way too much. I had to re-route all of it on my own.
Here's what it looks like:

Would getting a DC power supply (having them send it out) to power the thing - instead of pulling power off the recevier help? to be clear, the noise is coming from this little device and not the HR21. From some spec's I've seen, it takes 11-20 VDC to power the thing.
anyone running one of these and had a similar issue or any suggestions?
thanks.
