I recently purchased a set of PSB Image T55 towers, C40 center, and B25 bookshelves for surround. Before people ask, why B15 for surround? B15's were out of stock, so they gave me B25's at the same price. These speakers will be connected to a Marantz SR-5001.
This system replaces my 1998 Sony HTIB. Back then I also purchased an Audiosource SW50 8" front firing sub. Right now, the PSB's are working together with the SW50, but I want more. For music it is fine, as it is not loud and does the job. But, for HT it is average to below average you can hear thumps, but nothing that will make you go WOW!, actually not even wow.
My budget is $300 to $500 for a new sub, and I would even consider demo or factory refurbished in black.
What are your recommendation for a sub in this price range that will play well music and movies, but especially movies. One that I can fell the steps of a dinosaur and King Kong, or make a car crash scene sound like if it happened in front of me, but at the same time one that is not shy of playing bass, bass drums, and other low frequency instruments found in an orchestral piece.
