I've been getting parts for a Yamaha YP-B2 semi-auto belt-powered turntable that was given to me by my father in law.

I had to get a preamp, belt, headshell, and sylus cartrige (Stanton 680EL). I'm happy with the sound quality, but i have a problem with the mechanics of the player:

Because the new cartridge is a bit taller than the old one, the plastic bar that raises the needle doesn't touch the tone arm. So when I reach the end of a side, the arm drags horizontally across the disc. This is horrible. Not only does it make an annoying sound, its terrible for the needle and the grooves on the disc.

I've temporarily solved this by taping a bit of cardboard to the bar. This gives it enough height to lift the needle. But this is ugly.

It seems there should be a way to adjust this, but i can't find it.

It sounds like you may need to adjust the tonearm height. When playing a record, the tonearm should be level with the platter.

If your turntable has a tonearm height adjustment, you probably need to loosen a small screw near the tonearm's pivot point and carefully move the arm assembly up and tighten. Consult your owners manual if you have one.

The arm lifter may have its own adjustment, as well.
