Hi,

I have the following:

hitachi 57s500 (1080I) with dvi and component
sci atlantic digital cable - component and dvi
onkyo 605 receiver
tivo
klipsch quantum III speakers
bic 100 sub (on order)
dvd player
cd player

I've read here that people don't see a difference with the hitachi via dvi or component. So lets go component. Here's a strawman:

605<->hitachi component
605<->cable box component
605<>tivo component
605<>quantum 14AWG Enhanced Loud Oxygen-Free Copper Speaker (monoprice)
605<>bic 100 rca audio cable
605<> dvd player component
605<>cd player audio cable

here are my questions:
- Does the configuration make sense?
- Is there any advantage (price, performance, style) in buying speaker cable from monoprice vs. home depot?
- I have the bic100 on order and would like to order the cable. Not sure which cable to buy...a pointer would be most appreciated.

thanks!
vp

If I am understanding correctly, it sounds like everything you've described should be perfectly fine in your setup. Plus, you'll have the advantage of being able to just run one set of component cables from your receiver to TV--meaning you'll never have to change the input on the TV. As far as the sub cables go--if you're not going to be going a very long distance, I would say that just about any RCA cable should work. Dedicated sub cables typically have some additional shielding, which can be helpful over longer distances, but you probably won't notice much difference either way. So, that one's really up to you--I would imagine that monoprice is a good source for that. As for the difference between speaker cables, there probably isn't much of one. I don't know which is going to cost more, but the cable you list should be fine, assuming you don't have any runs over, say 50 ft. All in all, I think you've got a good handle on things. Good luck with the final setup, and enjoy!
