So, this can apply for any source really. With the D* H21, you can get PCM, 2 cahennel and 5 channel Dolby.

What settings do you use on your receiver for such ausdio sources?

Thanks!

Just set the HR21 to DD all the time. Most AV receivers will determine the number of channels coming across and act accordingly.

Yes, I do have it set for Dolby on, but I was wondering how your receiver processed the signal. You have choices and I was curiuos how others have theirs set up.

No problem, PCM is there for direct connections to TV's or AV receivers that can't accept DD. If you pass PCM to your AV receiver it's going to either process it as 2 channels and pass it to the left and right front speaker or as Dolby Pro Logic depending on what your AV receiver is capable of and what settings you have.

I can do anything, for the most part as I have an Onkyo 605.

So, what should I set 2.0, 5.1 and PCM as on my receiver for the best results?

if you have the onkyo tx-sr605 it is more than capable...set you box to DD. Let the Onkyo figure it out.

Yeah, well, it wont. I have charts what is supported for each format, so it is a prefernce thing. It can do almost anything, it is just picking the right setting. That is why I am asking here.

you know I am just not familiar with your receiver...I set my yamaha connected via optical out of my HR21, I select the correct input, and then change my sound field to a digital option like movie theater, then on that soundfield I can choose between digital, auto, or pro logic. I choose auto, then depending on the programming my receiver detects on its own.

Might want to ask the question on how to set your AV receiver in the Receiver forum. I'd be surprised if there's not some way for the 605 to auto select based on what you pass it, I just leave mine on DD and it drops down to Pro Logic when watching a 2.0 DD source and back to normal 5.1 DD on 5.1 sources when using it with my HR20.

I have asked. You can preset what it will default to based on signal. So, it is my choice.

I like your choices and use the same. What do you do for PCM though?

Not use it.

I have no choice if that is the signal I am receiving from the source though.

I'd have it default to Pro Logic for 2 channel PCM.

That is my plan after further research.

PCM=PLII Movie
2.0 Channel Dolby-PLII Movie
5.1 Channel Dolby=Dolby Digital 5.1
