Hi I was wondering if any one has tried putting a small power sub on a center channel and setting on full range. I have had diff receivers and speakers and I have always thot the center channel was lacking. I know the .1 should do it with double bass but still lacking.
Thanks, blacktop

Your center channel is lacking bass? How do you know it is your center channel lacking bass? It is extremely difficult to determine the direction a low frequency is coming from so it could just be your main sub in general lacking power/incorrectly positioned. What center channel do you have, you may just need a better center channel. do you have a crossover set up for your center on the receiver? what is the gain on your center? what phase is your sub set at?
sorry for so many questions but it is necessary in being able to assist you.

It is a larger aperion. I listen to a lot of ota HD onkyo 805. I know my content is lacking. I was holding out for the sam5000 player till the meltdown. I like the boomy "FM -dj type voices. Mayby I would not like it, just always looking for the next thrill. The center is good quality.
thanks for the help.

I'm no more than a poor college student and my system sucks so I cannot help much concerning higher fidelity speakers. Might you consider an equalizer to bump up the 200hz region?

Yes im playing with it. It sounds good as is. 8 in of snow I probably need to stop thinking so much and go out and move some snow around. That would be a lot cheaper.

I don't see how the .1 channel gives double bass, since it is actually supposed to be discrete information, rather than just a duplication of the bass portion of the signal already going to the center. Otherwise, we would never get a flat freq response. However since it sounds like you are looking for a bloom in the bass region, there may be a way to do that. If your receiver has a setting like "main plus LFE" for the sub, it will send the center's bass signal to the sub, even if the center is already playing that signal because it's set full range. Probably bad for your center to let it try to play full range, no matter how good you think it is.
Another approach would be to use a subwoofer processor with an EQ to get the desired sound.
The free approach would be to use some applied physics to see where to place the subwoofer so that you excite the room modes, and then you sit close to a room boundary (wall) so that you are in a mode where there is a peak (and not a null). Of course this is no good if the peak is in a bass freq that you don't like. Similarly, the problem you have might be that you're already sitting in a room mode which is canceling the freq that like most. At least stick some very thick pillows in the corners of the room to see if it helps.
