I recently purchased some Sennheiser HD595 headphones. I currently have a SoundBlaster Audigy 2Zs sound card.

In the Creative Audio Console, I was trying to determine if I should set the speaker type as 5.1 Surround or Headphones. I've always used 5.1 setup in Counterstrike: Source, because I can hear much better using this setting. I was wondering if setting it to 5.1 setup in the Creative Console would be better.

I currently do not have the JVC 5.1 headphone adapter, but plan to get it. I'm assuming I should set the console to use the headphone setting, but I wanted advice on what would be the best setting.

Counterstrike: Source sounds a lot better when I have it set as 5.1 rather than the headphone setting. When I'm listening to music, however, the headphone setting seems to be some what better.

Can anyone offer any advice?

For Music, I would say you probably want the headphone setting. Surround settings for headphones are just DSPs. For Gaming, go with whatever you like better. In truth, go with whatever you like better anyway, but the most accurate sound for music is going to be headphones.

The 'correct' setting for a typical pair of headphones is two-channel (stereo). Anything else is a 'special effect'. So use what you like.
