I'm relatively new to D* and was given have an HR-21 at installaltion but was able to work out an arrangement with D* that will allow me to swap out my HR-21 for a HR-20 (I don't get all my locals in HD so OTA was somewhat important).

Before I do so, I have a question about the tuners. If I connect an antenna to the HR-20 and am using it for my locals, could I still record 2 programs at once if both programs are not using the OTA tuner (for example, a movie on HBO and a game on ESPN). Althernatively, could I record two OTA programs simultaneously?

The reason I ask is because I've read that D* is working on an OTA solution for the HR-21. I'm willing to wait for a few months if the HR-20 limits my recording capabilities.

1) You can record two programs at once be it over the sat or OTA.

2) The HR21 does not physically have ATSC tuners in it, there is no solution coming out for OTA unless it's add on hardware.

On #2, that's correct. There's a pretty long thread over at DBS talk that gets into it. No one really knows what the HR-21 solution will be but most think it will be a USB add on.

So, basically you can record any combination of OTA and satellite just not exceeding two recordings at once?

And actually, one other question, is the time in between flipping channels on the 20 slower than the 21? I've read the 20 was slow but you never know so figured I'd throw it out here as well.

Correct

Can't comment on the HR21, I have my HR20 set to output 1080i and it takes a second or two between channels, it's not bad. Setting it to Native can add time between changes.

Great, thanks a lot.
