so i have the 4100SH but the user interface is not really pretty.
I went and tried to improve it, heres what I have so far.

feel free to use it for your own TViX.

I made these images anamorphic. Because I (and I guess most of us) have a 16:9 plasma display. So they will display correctly.

This is work in progress, so i'll post new stuff in this thread as it evolves.

For background_listview.jpg & background_iconview.jpg:
1-Rename background_listview.jpg (or background_iconview.jpg) to tvix.jpg and copy it to a folder. The file must be named 'tvix.jpg'

For upfolder.jpg:
1-Create a file named icon.tvix and copy it to a folder. The file must be named 'icon.tvix'
2-Copy upfolder.jpg to the same folder you copied icon.tvix. The file must be named 'upfolder.jpg'

For tv.jpg & tv_hd.jpg & movies.jpg & movies_hd.jpg & simpsons.jpg & seinfeld.jpg & prisonbreak.jpg & lost.jpg:
1-Create a file named icon.tvix and copy it to a folder. The file must be named 'icon.tvix'
2-Rename tv.jpg (or tv_hd.jpg or movies.jpg or movies_hd.jpg or simpsons.jpg or seinfeld.jpg or prisonbreak.jpg or lost.jpg) to the same name as you video file except for extension. If I have a video clip named myhdvideoclip.mpg, movies_hd.jpg needs to be renamed to myhdvideoclip.jpg for it to work.

Example using all of the above:
Before:
/movies/
/movies/my_movie.iso

After:
/movies/
/movies/my_movie.iso
/movies/my_movie.jpg (artwork for my_movie.iso)
/movies/tvix.jpg (wallpaper for /movies folder)
/movies/upfolder.jpg (artwork for up folder icon)
/movies/icon.tvix (enables icon browsing)

Icon browsing is a little slow with the latest 4100 firmware.

I was thinking about replacing my images and using yours, but I have multiple categories for my films. So I would want to create the film icons but with titles on them such as Action, Comedy, Romance, Sci-Fi, Drama, Home Movies, Transfer, Horror, and Anime.

I can't get these png files to work, is there a trick other than renaming them? Some of the other files you have here are fine other than the folder png files. I tried copying from here as well as the zip files. Great art work BTW!

I found I had to resize the .png files to 100x136 to get them to be recognized by my TVIX, despite the manual saying that any size will work. Maybe try that....

Hi, i made some wallpapers for the TviX if anyone is interested you can use them. Dont forget to change the filename to TviX.jgp and put it in the folder you want it to be seen.

This is probably a dumb question but how are you changing the icon used for a given folder? I have a 5000A and I would like to assign a different icon to each of my folders: movies / shows / archive.

The are the three directories in the root and are accessed once "video" is selected on the remote.

I have no internal drive and stream everything from a ReadyNAS.

Oh and one more thing, sometimes the TVIX won't acknowledge new picture, had this issue last night. Even though I will delete a wallpaper it will still be there when I turn it on.
Try running a movie on your PC that is on the TVIX, only for a few seconds or so , kind of kicks it to update or whatever....helped me anyway.

Guys, do you have any plans to rearrange your icons for the new Tvix 6500A?

Because with100x136 icons, when a folder is selected you just see the icon occupying a small area into a big orange border. (square)
Seems like the new size is 200x200, although i'm not 100% sure

stubbings, yours would be great as i have the same setup (SDTV/HDTV/HD MOVIES/SD MOVIES) :D

Great tips on changing things. I have one question. When i drop a play icon in the folder to replace the movie.iso it makes my up folder huge. I used the play button above and that looks fine. Not sure why my up folder is like 2-3 times normal size. Any ideas?

just a quick followup. seems as though once you drop a tvix.icon in the file it will show everything the 100x136 format. It will be the same as your coverart. I wonder if you have to make a modification to the tvix.icon file?

Let's say a TviX User interface for DUMMIES :-)

I have a TviX 5000 first model

This should cover just about everything. Some is pulled from DVICO's Faq's and some are personal observations. This should be true for all 4000/5000 series and to some extent even the 3000 series.

tvix.jpg - 720x480 background image, place in the folder you want the background in.
folder.jpg or .png - folder icon - Should be 100x136 or 88x136 for widescreen. Maximum icon size is 720x480. Place in the directory of the folder you want to replace.
upfolder.jpg or .png - used to replace the default upfolder icon. Place in the directory that is in 'icon' mode.
icon.tvix - empty file used to signify that the tvix should present the folders in 'icon' mode.

if tvix.jpg is placed in the root of the drive it is used by the TViX box in all subdirectories as well. Placing tvix.jpg in the subdirectories will override the one from the root.
*.jpg or *.png - if in a folder with media files and in icon mode the .jpg should have the same name as the media file to create the icon. (ie.- Video.avi & Video.jpg)
If otherwise not predefined - is treated as a picture or in the case of a music directory - as cover art for music playback.
If folder.jpg (lowercase) is present in a music directory it is not shown in the list view or used as cover art - it is only used as an icon.
Use *.png if you want to use transparency - set the transparency color as 0xC8C8C8.
To show a folder as icon, please put "folder.jpg" or "folder.png" in the folder.

Any 'Predefined' name will not show in the list view.
Any un-handled file will not show in the list view.

Did you forget ? I'd like to use the 1280x720 wallpapers on my 6500A.

It seems the wallpapers are also ignored on the first welcome screen, and the nookmarks screen. Any ideas why ?

Yes, But for the folder icons to work the png or jpg must been inside that folder and named folder you also need the icon.tvix file present.

So for folder1 you need to put the icon you want named as folder.jpg/png into folder1, then the next one in folder2 and so on.

Would this work on the 4000 ones ? The 4100/6500 is out of range for me price wise. Also, I only have a 720p set, so no point in going full 1080p at this time. All I'm after for the next few years would be to digitize the DVD collection....

For the bakground, it says any format is supported but 720*480 is recommended ... I have tried several format (especially 1280*1024) ... but none will work except the 720*480 ... but the it changes the aspect ratio to match the screen and i end up with a narrowed image !

Any idea how to avoid image rescaling ?

other thing i can't manage to make working: photo slide show is always sequential and once only by default ... while i would like it to be random and everlooping ... any ideas ?

Its awesome!! No internal harddisk in the Tvix required for this UI customization (well seems no way to alter the root UI without an internal harddisk right?:D)

Hi,
unfortunately the documentation is really miesleading concerning backgrounds. The only supported resolution is 720 x 480.

For your pictures you can place your photos in playlists and randomize within them. You can also get thumbnails using this method.
In this thread there's some explanations and also tools. There are newer tools at the end of tht thread.

Your root folder should consist of the following 3 subfolders:
Photo
Music
Video

Also create an empty file and call it icon.tvix. Copy icon.tvix under each sub-directory including the root. Under the Video folder you can create a folder for each genre. Now for the icons - for the Comedy genre (lets say), copy your icon you created for Comedy to the Comedy folder and rename it to folder.jpg. Note that Comedy folder should also contain an empty file called icon.tvix. Follow the same process for other genres. This is documented in the Tvix manual (the PDF file, not the one that ships in the box). You can find the PDF guide online on the Tvix website. Hope this helps.
