I am arranging to get a demo of a mint condition yet used panasonic pt-ae900 projector. I was wondering, do you people think it is worth $600 Canadian with 500 on the bulb already? Are there any options in this price range that even compare?

Yes, I would say ~$600 is a fair price to pay. If you aren't sensitive to DLP artifacts then DLP units like the HD70 or Mits HC1500 will give a much superior image for not much more money.
