Was hoping somenone can help me out with my options here. I have DirecTV, with a 5 LNB dish and a separate digital OTA antenna on my roof. All of the RG-6 runs to a grounding hub in my attic, then down to a distribution panel in my basement (6x8 multi-switch for DirecTV, and a 1x4 amp for the off-air antenna). Then, all of the RG-6 runs run across my basement into an equipment closet.

I also have 3 runs of Cat5 from this equipment closet to a detached garage.

What is the easiest way to install a receiver in my equipment closet, without running any more wire? Can the OTA signal be combined with Sirius on the roof so that I can split it at the distribution hub - one line would go to my OTA amp, and one line to a docking station in the closet? I have ample RG-6 lines running from my distribution centoer into my closet.

My other option would be to use my existing Cat5 runs to the garage - can any of the antenna wire be stripped and combined with Cat5? I could easily mount an antenna outside my garage.

If I use the OTA or dish on the roof, do I call Sirius to install it? (there's no way I could do it myself).

Thanks for your help.

You need a SIRIUS CATV Cable Distribution Kit. As long as you have a free run of RG6 you should be ok.

If you don't then you can look into a SIRIUS Echo Signal Repeater System.

Thanks. So I can use the CATV kit to split my OTA antenna? For what it's worth, tss radio is telling me that the CATV kit will only work with a cable signal, and the Satellite kit will only work with DirecTV or Dish Network. There is nothing that would work with an OTA antanna. Is that right? Does the satellite kit degrade the DirecTV picture at all?

Once I get the line into the basement, I've got more than enough RG-6 runs into my equipment closet. Why does the Satellite kit cost so much more? I assume because the splitters included operate at higher frequencies than the CATV kit?

I haven't tried either. Instead I just ordered their outdoor antenna and ran another RG6 cable.

The more I look at it, the more it seems to make sense to try the echo repeater. I can put it on a window ledge in the basement. My concern would be if it didn't work, I'd be out the $99. But it seems worth it considering it would probably cost me twice that to get someone on my roof. I'll have to see what TSS's return policy is. Thanks for your help.

doesn't DirecTV have the XM channels? they're pretty much the same except for the talk and sport channels... sirius is really a bear to get a signal within the house, so if XM is an option, you can use a home unit or plug-n-play and should get a good signal without the need to put the antenna outside. you might also want to consider Sonos which can access Sirius via the Internet.
