I never thought I would agree, but this History of Howard Stern, so far, has been a PLEASANT SURPRISE.

It is funny, well put together radio documentary(only 2 parts into it, to what will amount too, I think 2 weeks worth of shows).

I have been really surprised by how informational, and funny this radio documentary has been.

I had been planning on cutting out for a couple of weeks until he is back(after Jan 4th) live, but I have been really surprised by this.

I know some will chime in and say this is just a couple of shills for Howard, but you could not be more wrong.

This Radio documentary is something for him to be REALLY PROUD of at this point.

Granted, we are only 2 days into it, and he is ONLY just arriving at WFAN/NYC at the end of todays show(Circa 1982), but hopefully it will continue too be jsut as strong all the way through.

Yesterdays installment was really well crafted.

It will be a little hard to describe to those without Sirius, but the way it is being laid out with intercuts of interviews with all the key people involved in his life(those who have been in and out of his life as well, which is a real surprise. They must have gone to great lengths to find these people, and GET THEM to agree to be interviewed), and then the intercuts of his talking about these moments from excerpts of past shows has been really exceptionally well done so far.

I will continue to listen, unless it get's stale(which for me, most REPEATS are, especially on radio).

But so far it has been a THUMBS UP performance.

It is really good....

I'm surprised about how much it focuses on world events happening during these times in his history.. Like White Flight, MLK murder, etc...

I'm still listening to part 1, which is a lot of interviews. I am really looking forward to early year in-studio recordings.

This is a top notch production. I expecting 5 days of lesbians.. this is really interesting...

I like it, especially day 2.
Day 1 went a little over board with the background music.

Howard smoked a joint - que 2 minutes of "Dear Mr. Fantasy"
There was racism in Roosevelt L.I. - que "For What Its Worth"
They mention the Paul McCartney bit in Japan, now we have 5 mintues of "Band on the Run"

Enough!!! Something tells me they aren't paying for those music rights.

These are entertaining life stories of a radio entertainer, not world changing events.
I am an adult of average (maybe even a little above) intelligence, I can follow interviews without musical interludes playing in the background every second.

 Anyway...
The history has been really interesting so far. So far it has been fairly good at showing you how far he as come, bouncing from one crappy station to another trying to make it big. His story isn't really any different from any other successful personality but it does hold your attention.

The best part is all the old tapes. I'm surprised they were able to find so much footage from before the WNBC days.

Yes, surprised how ballsy he was in Washington. The supermarket bits were hilarious and being "black" on the black show. I can't wait for tomorrow....the WNBC days. That sounds to be a real treat.:D

I'm listening to the WNBC days and so far I noticing greatness in the making. Does this mean he invented interesting, ballsy radio? YES!!

No one EVER made fun of management on AIR! Howard did and STILL does.
No One EVER spoke to their parents on the AIR! Howard did.

I love the way he exposed the complainers against him on WNBC like the traffic reporter. Talk about a dear staring at the headlights.

Awesome history clips.

Wow! This was a week of compelling radio history! I have greater respect for Stern. It was the first time in radio, a girl.....no THREE girls were naked! Funny how Imus started doing what Howard did immediately. Imus even called Howards mother and wanted to be Howard's "buddy" so Imus can steal more of his ideas!

What a fake.

But I thought that next week, would be the move to K Rock. Unfortunately, it's for a later date.:(

I don't think anyone would argue that Howard Stern USED to be an amazing broadcaster... and these tapes are proving it. The real story will be once people realize what he is today... an overpaid, under-entertaining has-been.

Flame away... start with, "His Sirius shows are the best he's been in years..."

Yeah this is pretty amazing I'm still on day 4 or whatever. Them busting Imus' balls was great, lots of good stuff. Whoever figured out all that clapping was gay is the one who deserves that 500 million lol. Good stuff man, good stuff.

Like I stated before, I really enjoyed those shows last week.

Except for one REALLY ANNOYING thing they used to do back then(which I never realized because i was so young when he was on WNBC):

They used to CLAP after everything he said, and boy, was that F'ING ANNOYING.

Anyone else notice that?

After everything he said, whether it was funny or not, they all clapped after.

Believe me, once you notice that, it gets REAL OLD, REAL FAST.

I am so glad that they don't do that anymore.

It will be interesting to see if that occured in the early days of KRock or not.

It probably did, but I am positive it has not happened in the last 15-17 years, at least.

He(Howard or someone else) probably began to realize they seemed like total idiots CLAPPING after he said anything. Whether or not it was funny.

I am glad they stopped that garbage.

Ill take 5-5 1/2 hours a day of uncensored radio over -

lets see-

3 hours of censored radio - 1hr of commercials + what 2 hours again of censored material from two guys that have hardly anything left by the time they get to XM.

no ratings-
losing fm stations every month
losing maybe all of fm radio by April(so much for talking to all howards listeners)lol....
did i say no ratings-
200,000 people tuning in on XM.
now free podcasts of the radio show on Itunes that the pests were crowing about because they were number 2. A quick check shows them out of the top 20.

lol.....do these guys ever win.
guess not.

Well, after working five days a week, with five hr shows, sometimes six, AND doing it for more than 20 yrs, I say, yes...why not take Friday off. Johnny Carson came to the point of working only three days, or was it two, for one and half hrs a NIGHT!
Do anything for money? I assume you'd do it for free? It's a business, let me remind you.

Carson paid his dues and so has Stern.

Anymore comments we can embarrass you again with?

Glad the clapping has gone to the wayside, I noticed that with the old shows also. Stern is the only reason I have Sirius, sound quality on XM is a lot better in my opinon. The Comedy 150 channel is a lot better than all the nonsense & too little stand-up that Raw Dog has to offer.

Bring on a la carte.

As a long time listener (18+ yrs) I had never heard the clapping but damn was that cheesy and annoying.

I also didn't like the Earth Dog Fred voice, although Fred acknowledged it was cheesy.

Also did you notice how high Howard's voice was.

I thought the programming was well done, I am sure some Stern haters would even say that the news magazine format was terrible not just Stern.

Since I am not just a Fanboy....Here's some critiques:

1.Artie saved the show back in late K-Rock days

2. Howard was getting very annoying with the constant complaining.

3.I thought O&A and Ron and Fez on the WNEW NY years were better and funnier, while Howard was doing his everyone is copying me routine and how he is censored.

4. Is he egotistical .. yes.. whiney at times yes....

But more times than not the show (total cast of characters included) is fantastic

In the 18 yrs I have listened I can only remember 2 terrestrial shows that were funnier than his best stuff on satellite.

I do have to say that he should really watch himself again cause he is starting with the fire me routine.... and with complete freedom, $500 million plus, 4 day workweeks, etc.... it can be very alienating to his listeners.
