Have a panasonic 42px75u. I have a directv box hooked into HDMI (1) and a new HT-X50 Samsung dvd home theater system hooked into HDMI (2) on the back of the TV. Would like the TV to use the speakers on the HT-X50 when watching TV - not just DVD's. Can someone tell me what cables I need to run and where they should be hooked up?
thanks,
Pam

The Samsung has both HDMI IN/OUT and digital audio optical (sometimes called Toslink) out.
You can try connecting the DTV box to the Samsung using an HDMI cable and then connect the Samsung to the TV using an HDMI cable. That ought to work although with some hardware and HDMI versions it won't work.
If it does not work and the DTV box has an optical digital audio out you can connect it to the Samsung's optical in jack using an inexpensive optical cable That should work to get DD 5.1 audio to your HT box.
There may also be a pair of L/R audio out jacks (usually red/white) on your DT box and you can connect these to the Samsung's matching audio in jacks.
This connection will not pass DD5.1; it passes stereo that the Samsung's ProLogic setting converts to faux surround sound.
The digital audio cable worked. Thanks...

I know this is almost amonth old but I just got the X50 to go with my new Samsung 40 inch lNT-4053H TV. I have an HD Tivo and had the upconvert stand alone DVD player hooked up to a cheap 45 dollar Walmart surround sound system a little sub woofer with 5 speakers. The sound came out of both the the DVD and Tivo and there was red and white audio cables hooked up to the subwoofer and I think my TV. But I returned my upconvert for this instead to have an FM tuner. So now the upconvert will be hooked up also via HDMI to the TV as well as my HD Tivo. So all I will need is red and white audio cables and the sound will come out of both DVD and TV as in my recorded Tivo shows? I think my upconvert had come with red and whites I don't know what is in this X50 box I just got it and am not sure if i can set it up or not so I may wait for a friend to help me. Do you like this system? I know there's much better out there but this was in my price range and I think all I needed for my small living room.
