View Full Version : Maybe a Sub?

Okay, I just have the itch to upgrade something. LOL I've been told in some other threads to upgrade my sub.

I currently have a Polk satellite system: 4-2300 satellites, cs1750 center channel, and a rm1295 sub. I think the sub is an 8" sub and I've heard that Polk subs aren't the best.

I also have some older Polk S10's that I'm thinking of using as my fronts if the wife doesn't veto.

I've got a budget of about $200 +/- a little. I see that most people recommend the Bic H-100 almost everytime when it comes to a budget like mine. My listening area is about 15' x 17' but the room extends about another 17' past my listening area. Should I get a sub this big or should I go with a smaller one and possibly save some cash? I will watch/listen to movies, not much music.

So would you guys still recommend the Bic h-100 in this setup? Or something else all together?

Thanks in advance,
Couch

You are saving cash by not buying a $400 subwoofer. :) Yes you can find very good 8" powered subs for $25 less, but for a HT system all things being equal a larger woofer is better suited for HT over a "fast & musical" 8" sub.

You aren't saving much $ by going to a smaller sub, but sometimes floor space is worth more than money. 8" subs can provide decent HT bass in a small footprint as long as one doesn't expect pant flapping explosions.

Hey thanks for the reply. I see you are from Louisville too. :) I tried to crank it up a little today watching Return of the Jedi and not sure if I have my sub set up wrong or if it's just the sub but it sounded like it was breaking up on some of the battle scenes. I'm guessing it's the sub and not the setting? I have the sub set to +8db on my Onkyo tx-ds484 and about 1/2 on the sub itself.

I just want something that's tighter sounding. I don't think it makes sense to have bass if it's not tight. So would you still recommend the Bic? Any other recommendations?

Thanks again--
