Here is what I have...

Livingroom is 15x20 with vaulted ceilings. The livingroom has an open floor plan that joins with the kitchen. The kitchen is 10x20 with standard 9' ceilings. I have a total of about 6000 cu ft. This system will be used for movies 90% of the time, and games the other 10%. No music, no CD's or anything like that. Just movies and games. Right now, I have the VTF3 MKII and it's just not cutting it for me in this new house that we have. I ordered the Turbo for the -3 MKII, and it didn't give me what I was looking for. So I'm looking to upgrade.

Components pushing this system are a Sherwood P-965 and an ATI 1505 amp.

I am going to order the VTF3 HO, and pair it up with the Turbo that I just received. I have decided that, and I am going to order it today. I want to do this right, and not waste anymore time trying to get exactly what I want. I am a bass junkie when I'm watching movies, and I want the best performance I can possibly have. I'm considering ordering the MBM, which brings me to the question, which is why I'm submitting this thread.

Should I...

A) Order the MBM with the VTF3 HO, and sell my VTF3 MKII

or

B) Do not buy the MBM. Keep the VTF3 MKII, and pair it up with the VTF3 HO

Looking for the best performance I can have with this sytem. And I just don't know if the VTF3 MKII will be better than the MBM when paired with the VFT3 HO with the Turbo.

I'm also going to call HSU when they open up, and get their advice. But I also wanted to ask you guys, and get your opinion.

Thanks!
Nick

Of your 2 choices I would sell the 3.2, buy the MBM and pair it with the HO. This way the MBM handles the 50Hz-80Hz and the HO takes care of the rest. This actually gives the HO a little more power since it is relieved of the higher frequencies. When I paired my MBM with my dual HO's my FR actually went about 2 Hz lower.

Good luck

Thats kind of the path I was thinking of taking. But I wasn't sure.

This is an interesting dilemma you are in. Your room is pretty large and it would be of great benefit to have duals. With that said, why not just try to find a used 3.2 OR Outlaw has the LFM-1 Plus sub which is essentially the same sub as the former 3.2 with one caveat-that being down-firing ports as opposed to the rear firing on the 3.2. However, I could also see the benefit of the HO since your preference is mainly on ht and gaming so you could use some extra energy down low. You may also want to give Dr. Hsu a call or send Peter Marcks a pm. Either of which would be more than happy to answer your question. In the long run, however, I think it is going to come down to what YOU think is the best fit because based upon the given scenariois I personally dont think you could go wrong either way. Good luck on your decision and please keep us informed as to how this all plays out for you. Have a great day.

Why not order the HO and the MBM and hold off on selling your 3.2 for a bit. Once you get the HO and the MBM, try all of the different options you mentioned. Then you'll KNOW FOR SURE which will work the best. If you end up not liking the MBM, send it back or if you end up not needing the 3.2, sell that later.

Genius! :D

Thats what I did. I ordered both the HO and the MBM this morning. Hopefully they will be here before Christmas so I can play with it all on Christmas day.

I'll post what I decide after I get everything hooked up.

Hey Nick be sure to keep us posted. I too was considering the HO but my preference is on musical performance. As such, Dr. Hsu explained to me the HO driver with the Xbl^2 technology really pays off when running in ME mode. Therfore, down low it will move more air with less distortion. So, it sounds like you made the right decision. I ,on the other hand, went with the 3.3 and glad I did. Be sure to let us know the specifics and a few pics would also be nice if you don't mind.

Well, just thought I'd give you guys an update. Got all the pieces on Christmas Eve.

Originally I had the MBM hooked up with the HO. It sounded awesome! But I decided to go ahead and play with all 3 subs today. Hooked up the -3 MKII with the HO, and it netted some DEEP base!

Set up #1
1-HO is hooked up, crossover set "in" and on 50-55hz.
2-Preamp crossover set at 80hz.
3-Hooked the MBM up. Crossover set to "out"

This set up sounds awesome! Good mids, and excellent deep base. This is an amazing combo of subs, and I can see where the MBM really pays off!

Set up #2
1-HO hooked up, and crossover set "in" and on 50-55hz.
2-Preamp crossover set to 80hz.
3-Hooked up -3 MKII,and set crossover to "out".

Still have some good mids, but this set up gave me quite a bit more deep base. I think my brain was rattling :D Just to give you an idea of how hard this set up hit, we have one of those stockings things hanging from the closet door knob. Decorative thing with bells on it. After firing up the -3 MKII and the HO together, the bells were ringing :eek::D

I was under the impression that the -3 MKII and the HO wouldn't go well together since the port sizes are different.

I need to get a splitter so I can hook all 3 of the up at the same time.......I have a feeling that me and the S.O. are going to be fighting :(:D
