I am very new to audio wiring, so please excuse my ignorance.

I want to pre-wire my bonus room (30'x16') for a HT. I plan to mount a projector on the ceiling in the middle and have a chase run the cables to the wall where my receiver, etc... will be. I plan to pre-wire all speaker locations in the room back to that receiver location. I have the speaker wire run for speakers (12AWG) but I do not know what to use for the subwoofers (2 locations).

I read in another similar thread that someone recommended coax. How does that work? Are there adapters that will allow me to connect the receiver sub output to the coax, and then from coax to the sub input?

Thanks a lot for the help. Drywall goes up next week:)

Yes, use coax.

There are several ends as well as adapters that you can put on or use with coax. Depending upon whether you use wall plates or not and what sort of connections are on the room side and in-wall side of the wall plates will determine what ends and/or adapters you will need. For example, there are wall plates that have female RCA connections on the room side and male F connections on the in-wall side. There are also wall plates with female RCA connections on both sides. And there are wall plates with male F connectors on both sides.

But you can attach RCAs directly to the ends of coax. You can use "F" ends if necessary. You can use an F on one end and an RCA on the other. And there are F to RCA adapters if necessary. ETC.. Rest assured, you will be able to "DO" what you need to do.

One thing you may want to do is use wall-plates with RCA female connectors on the in-room side and simply use standard RCA cables of the correct length to connect each of your subwoofers.

I will get Coax ran from my receiver to my sub locations. I do plan to use wall plates, so I will look for one as you described.

Thank you again for the help. This is just the best website I have ever used. The only downside is that it is addicting. I start reading and a few hours later my wife is telling me what she thinks of the d*** computer...

Just wondering where do you get the F/RCA for the Wall Plate?

Thanks
