Hi all, so, I've been reading these forums for what seems like months. My wife thinks I'm becoming crazy, obsessed, trying to find the perfect tv. My situation, looking for a 50", viewing distance is 9-14 ft., the room does have a window and some light. I don't need to hang it on the wall. I was set on the Sony SXRD a3000. Liked the 1080p, 24p and that fancy stuff. Good price at fry's for 1299. My wife wants a sexy flat screen. :) Frys was out of stock, so while waiting for more to come in, I've found the Sammy 5064 with the anti glare. Originally ruled out plasma since a sales guy told us they were all like mirrors with glare. So, the price is similar. My viewing distance dictates I don't need 1080p, I won't be getting blue ray or hddvd for probably another year. So, is the Sammy 5064 at the current Amazon price the TV for me? From reading the owners thread, it is sounding like many are having a problem with flicker. Is this widespread, affecting even new purchases made now? I thought it sounded like the perfect option, but now I'm concerned. If I do get a bad one, will sending back to Amazon be a pain? For my family's sake, please help.... :) thanks

If so I hope you ordered it because the price just went up a few hundred.

You seem like a very nervous type and second guess your decisions. Probably best not to buy because you are setting yourself up for disappointment

I would re-consider a plasma. I think the sales person might have steered you in the wrong direction. Just my 2 cents.

I agree with Brian's 2 cents, the salesperson doesn't appear to be too knowledgeable about plasma sets. You can ease your fears a little by buying from a local CC, BB, Sears or some other local retailer like Sam's Club or Costco. That way, if your not happy with the PQ you can always box it back up and bring it back. Just read the return policies from whatever retailer you choose so you don't get stuck with a restocking fee.

thread bumps like this are a waste of space. Quick check of the OP's posting history reveals he ended up buying a 42" Panasonic Plasma. go figure.

What did you end up doing I just ordered the 5064 for $1399 as well from Frys. Did you get it how do you like it?

I am really excited, sold my old Toshiba 46" rpt HDTV to make space.
