View Full Version : Any Nvidia custom resolution gurus for IN72?
nathantw 12-19-07, 06:36 PM Are any of you Nvidia custom resolution gurus? Before I updated my drivers to the latest version I was able to get 1080i resolution (1920x1080) on my IN72 from my computer. However, since then I've tried just about everything to get that resolution back with my DVI cable, but no luck. I even went so far as to drop back down 2 driver revisions but I can't seem to get the right settings back. I can get 720p and whatever resolutions that are just under and just over 1920x1080, but not exactly 1920x1080. The image looks stretched and "wrong" in those resolutions.
If you've been successful at tweeking your custom resolution to get 1920x1080, do you think you can share your settings?
Thanks!
Nathan

Why arent you using 848x480? You wont get a better image from anything else.

Believe it or not regular DVD movies run under 1920x1080 from the computer look much better than if run at a "lesser resolution" or from a regular DVD player. Moire disappears and the color and contrast is better.

I don't see how upscaling a 480p source to 1080i/p just to have your projector downscale it back to 480p would look better. The fewer the steps the better the picture... Perhaps something is lost with the 854x480 output setting?
nathantw 12-20-07, 02:25 PM Don't know, but in the beginning of The Mummy 2 they show the pyramids with some steps. On my progressive DVD player with component cables the steps had moire. I turned off progressive and it was the same thing. I put it into my computer and tried it at a lower resolution and it had it. I then put it at 1080p and it disappeared.
I figured out the custom setting on the Nvidia software. I had to set the resolution to 1920x1080 and the refresh rate to 24 instead of 60. I also had to make sure that interlace wasn't clicked. That gave me 1080p on the projector display. Words on the display look really lousy, as they should since it's not really high def, but the picture is pretty clean.
After further testing if I went "change resolution" while being able to see all available resolutions I was able to set the machine at 1920x1200, but that stretched the display. For 1080i I had to set it for 1920x1080 30Hz. For 1080p I had to set it to 24Hz, though it gave me a real resolution of 1400x1050.
I agree.
Either way, here are my custom Nvidia settings (for 848x480 mind you). Look great.

nathantw 12-21-07, 01:06 PM Thanks, Klover. I tried to setup a custom resolution that matched what you kindly put together in your graphic, but my settings window doesn't match yours. What version of the Nvidia software are you using?
84.63 - it's older but also the last Nvidia release that had a) the old interface and b) output 848x480 properly to the IN72.
You should also use a 72 or 48 hertz refresh rate for movie playback. And make sure the projector is set to native.
If everything is set right you will see a big improvement, the text will be razor sharp. Cant get a better picture.

Nice info klover. Unfortunately the 84.63s only support Geforce 78xx, 79xx video cards. I'm looking for something that works with Geforce 8800GT in XP and Vista. I get a real nice image thru IN72 at 16x9 and video card set at 1280x720p. Still looking for any way to fine-tune or tweak it further...if possible.

Sorry, didn't know that. Good luck with the search. I am still waiting on good Nvidia drivers for the 7900 before I install Vista.
nathantw 12-22-07, 05:00 PM I'm using a 6600GT AGP.
I couldn't get 848x480 no matter how much I tried. Whenever the resolution did show up as an option my projector gave me 640x480. Not quite what I had in mind. I ended up sticking with 1920x1080 at 30Hz to watch movies.
